Trainee Animal Keeper - Park Birds

Role Profile

The Zoological Society of London is looking for a Trainee Keeper on the Park Birds Section based at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo. The main purpose of the trainee keeper position is to manage day to day operational duties relating to animal husbandry and visitor interaction within the section. You will be responsible to the section Team Leader or other key senior animal department staff within the section. Working within this department gives the applicant opportunities to work with many high profile species and to contribute to global breeding programmes.  The section holds a huge variety of taxa and species including wattled cranes, Blue crowned laughing thrush, penguins, flamingos, hornbills and owls.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will be required to have:

  • Previous experience of aviculture in a zoo or equivalent environment.
  • Good communication skills, enthusiasm, and an outgoing and friendly personality.
  • A full driving licence - essential.
