Nursery Apprentice - Waterloo

The Nursery Assistant is a key member of the early years team responsible for delivering high quality care and learning opportunities for children, based on the needs and interests of those children.

  • Promote positive relationships in the early years setting
  • Promote the health, safety and wellbeing of the children
  • Support the children’s development, learning and play
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of team work

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

People

 

  • Have a child centred approach to the running of the service
  • Encourage and model appropriate behaviour and expectations
  • Maintain accurate and effective children’s records
  • Respond appropriately to issues requiring confidentiality
  • Support, promote and implement policies relating to diversity and equality
  • Work well as part of a team

 

Partnership

 

  • Work with the team to ensure the smooth running of the nursery day
  • Work in partnership with parents
  • Attend parent events and meetings as required
  • Promote the nursery to current parents and potential customers
  • Work with other agencies to support children

 

Programme

 

  • Implement St. Patrick’s policies and procedures to ensure compliance with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and other statutory requirements
  • Assist with observations and planning with the staff team
  • Assist with the care and educational experiences planned by the staff team for the children
  • Ensure that children are kept safe and that staff and where necessary follow child protection procedures
  • Practice positive behaviour management techniques

 

Performance

 

  • Support the manager and work as a team to ensure a good or better inspection outcome
  • Participate in all self-development activities including appraisal and supervisions
  • Attend training sessions necessary for continuing Professional Development and attend staff meetings
  • Maintain staffing ratios in accordance to statutory regulations

The successful applicant :

  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a high-pressured environment
  • Excellent communicator
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Computer literate /good level of IT skills e.g. word, e-mail, Microsoft packages
  • Have GCSE at C or above in Math’s and English or equivalent
