Catering Manager - Ambleside, Cumbria

YHA Langdale, High Close

Hours – 25-42.5 p/w

Live In or out (Staff accommodation available at £58.52 per week)

Rate of Pay - £10.65 p/h

Kitchen Manager skills and experience:

Our kitchen manager role requires flexibility to cover different shifts and tasks. It’s an advantage but not essential that our kitchen managers have worked in a face-to-face role with customers previously. Experience** in hospitality or customer service would be advantageous, including the management and delivery of a quality service.

Proven experience of working with the hospitality industry would be advantageous and significant experience of food and beverage best practice is essential.  Qualifications such as City & Guilds 706/ 1&2, NVQ4 or equivalent level of experience, Food Safety Level 2 Certificate are desired.  Experience working knowledge of allergens and health and safety compliance requirements along with excellent numeracy skills and experience of stock control and waste principles to maximise profit is essential.

Duties vary so good communication* skills, excellent timekeeping and basic IT skills are advantages.

Knowledge and understanding of YHA’s core purpose and experience of working in a team are beneficial.

Kitchen Manager role responsibilities:

Our Kitchen managers are responsible for supporting the management of an operational budget and delivery of KPI’s, supporting with a wide range of customer facing duties across the hostel, delivering an excellent service to all guests and visitors, giving them a great experience of YHA.

Your day-to-day duties may include:

  • managing the food and beverage operation within your hostel
  • leading the preparation and delivery of food to agreed YHA standards
  • carrying out cleaning duties predominantly within our kitchen and food and beverage service areas
  • minimising food and beverage waste
  • maximising food and beverage profits

Our Kitchen managers may deputise for the Hostel/Deputy Manager, managing the hostel’s daily operation in their absence.
