Matlock, Derbyshire - Temporary - 37.5 Hours per week

Start: ASAP (3 Month Contract)

We are looking for a Governance Secretary on a temporary contract. You will co-ordinate and lead on all governance work and support the CEO team with other activities. You will ensure consistently accurate transactional activities are completed within specified timeframes and co-ordinate all sub committees of the YHA Board.


Key Role Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

*Managing reporting to Companies House and the Charity Commission

*Provide committee support to the Board, PAC and Remco - including meeting administration papers and taking and distribution of minutes.

*Take responsibility for other meetings linked to governance including AGMs, 

*Support the CEO with preparing Board papers and collating papers from Exec for distribution. 

*Support Trustee recruitment activity and co-ordinate Trustee induction. 

*Keep the governance website and internet updated.

*Assist CEO Team with internal and external promotion, PR or other publications and events as required.

*Provide PA cover for the Chairman when needed.  

*Other duties as reasonably required to support the Board, CEO and CEO Office Team.


Required Experience

If you are interested in this position you must be able to demonstrate: 

*Experience in a governance role, supporting at Board level

*An eye for detail and enjoys setting up effective administration systems and co-ordinating projects.

*Friendly and approachable with the ability to adapt communication style to build positive relationships with a wide audience including YHA members, senior management, Board and other contacts

*Calming presence; able to remain cheerful and resilient in challenging situations

*Able to adapt written communication style to deal with very formal Board and governance communications, but equally at home with more informal social media and email when appropriate.

*Able to take comprehensive and accurate minutes at speed, shorthand would be a distinct advantage. Good level of IT skills particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. 

*Very well organised and able to deal with peaks and troughs in workload and conflicting priorities. Able to work occasional weekends and evenings and travel to hostels throughout the network to support Board and other meetings.

*Flexible and adaptable. Willing to support the Board, CEO and wider CEO Office team. 

*A good understanding of the YHA operation, departmental organisation and wider corporate governance requirements, and/or a willingness to learn quickly.

*An advocate of YHA at all times. Supports the charitable object, vision and SPIRIT values. Willing to get involved with wider YHA activities on occasion including Volunteering, Fundraising or Team Events. 

*A discreet and trusted confidante to Chairman and CEO when needed.

*Holds a current driving licence and willing to collect visitors and or drive across the hostel network as required on occasions.

*This role requires a degree of flexible working, and occasional visits to hostels in England & Wales.
