Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Trust is looking to appoint suitably qualified, experienced and enthusiastic Group Exercise Instructors to support the delivery of our group exercise program. All applicants must have the relevant qualifications.

Principle Job Purpose

To provide a high quality service to those using Merthyr Tydfil Leisure’s group exercise classes and contribute to Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Trusts vision of Enhancing Lives through Leisure and Culture by promoting the benefits of being physically active.

Responsible to: Health and Fitness Manager

Key responsibilities

  • To plan and deliver quality and effective group exercise sessions
  • To record attendance figures and ensure all payments have been made prior to attending any session and ensure this information is handed in to the health and fitness manager
  • To complete coach time sheets and ensure use of clocking in machine before and after sessions
  • To ensure all stock is correctly stored and in good working order before and after setting up for the group exercise class/classes.
  • To ensure the area is left clean and tidy after the group exercise session has taken place
  • Respect the confidentiality of all customers and ensure customer forms are filed and administered in accordance with Data Protection policy.
  • To adhere to Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Trust’s Health and Safety policy, including the completion of risk assessments, first aid and other requirements. To complete individual risk assessments for every group exercise session taken
  • To participate in and successfully complete both individual and organisational training and development opportunities
  • To work within other areas of the service as the need arises.

Person Specification

Qualification / Experience

  • Hold at least level 2 gym instructor qualification - Essential
  • First Aid qualification - Desirable
  • Disability Inclusion Training - Desirable
  • Two years’ experience of taking group exercise classes - Essential
  • Willingness to undertake additional training - Essential

Knowledge and Skills

  • Good communication skills both written and oral - Essential
  • Ability to collect and collate data e.g. registers - Essential
  • Ability to adapt coaching style to meet the needs of the participants. - Essential
  • Able to communicate through the medium of Welsh - Desirable
  • Ability to build a rapport with customers - Essential
