About us

Over a thousand years ago a band of norwegian vikings, named the black pagans, invaded the city of chester under the command of their leader ingimund.

After a fierce battle, the city of chester was regained by the saxons. The vikings retreated to the wirral peninsula and were joined by compatriots from across scandinavia.

West kirby is an adaptation of the viking ‘vestr kirkjubyr’ which means ‘village with a church’.

This influenced our name ‘the viking pub & bakehouse’ as a tribute to west kirby’s rich viking history.
