Our Commitment to you! - Learn and Develop with us from Day 1

We believe that building on your skills and confidence is the key to help make you feel at home and ensure that you are quickly familiarised with our policies, procedures and ways of working. From Day 1, you will be taken under the wing of an experienced colleague who will support your training and show you the ropes.  
 

Induction

During your first 3 – 6 months of employment you will be provided with training in your job role to learn the technical skills required to do your job along with our brand standards to ensure that you are confident in delivering the level of service our guests expect when they stay in one of our hotels.
 

Your Induction Programme will be structured to include:

  • Attendance on our Company Welcome Programme
  • Induction in to your department
  •  Job role skills and knowledge If you work in a customer facing department you will also be invited to attend our fun and interactive customer service training workshops

Skills Development

We offer a portfolio of face to face and e-learning programmes to help develop your knowledge and skills which include:

  •  Customer Service

  • Complaint Handling and Service Recovery
  • Wine and Beverage Training
  • WSET Certification
  • N / SVQ’s

We offer ‘The Hotel Collection Skills Development programmes’ which are work-based qualifications supporting our colleagues to gain the sustainable skills needed to succeed in our business.

Continuing your Personal Development Career Chats and Personal Development Plans

At The Hotel Collection we recognise that you may have some specific training and development needs that are not necessary addressed within our current range of courses. Your development is extremely important to us and therefore we encourage you to arrange a Career Chat with your Line Manager or HR Manager who will be delighted to help talk about your personal development and work with you to create a ‘bespoke’ development plan. Your personal development plan is unique to you but may consist of activities such as work shadowing, project work, supplier visits, experiencing a few shifts working in another department, coaching and mentoring. Your HR Manager will also be able to advise on any internal or external training courses which are recommended for your development.

Leisure & Beauty Training Opportunities

The Hotel Collection has fantastic Health & Leisure Clubs offering a wide range of exercise and relaxation opportunities. Many of our Hotels offers gyms, spas with luxury spa pools, steam rooms and saunas and some have tennis courts, squash courts and golf courses. We are committed to ensuring that our colleagues get the opportunities they need to develop their talent and potential and are consistently able to deliver positive impressions and lasting memories to our guests. Our Fitness and Leisure teams benefit from attending the following compliance and skills development courses: STA Level 3 Award in Pool Plant Operations (QCF)

this comprehensive 3 day course aims to enable our leisure teams to manage and maintain swimming pool and spa via receiving the training necessary to reflect the most up-to-date requirements and standards for pool plant operation.

STA Professional Award for Pool Responder

This 2 day course is designed to train our leisure personnel in pool rescue, CPR Techniques and first aid competencies in order to deal with poolside emergencies in accordance with the HSE requirements and National Occupational Standards.

First Aid at Work  3 day course in delivering First Aid in the workplace

HABC Level 3 Award in Health & Safety in the Workplace

This in depth 3 day course is aimed at Leisure and Spa Managers and covers; Health and safety legislation; Health & Safety Policy; Risk assessment;
Control measures; COSHH; Workplace practices;
Safety Management systems

Leisure and Beauty Skills Development Courses:

At The Hotel Collection we offer a number of Training and Programmes which are 12 months in duration. These programmes are delivered by our Training Partner ‘Lifetime Training’ and will enable you to achieve a nationally recognised training qualification whilst doing your job and getting paid for it. The courses available include:

Level 2 Fitness Instructor

The Fitness Instructor Training Programme is the perfect route for anyone who wants to work on the gym floor, within a gym or leisure club environment. During this programme you will learn how to teach one or two popular on-trend group classes.

Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Leisure Operations 

This Programme is targeted at staff members who are heavily involved operationally within the work place. This programme is aimed at recreational assistants, lifeguards, multi skilled receptionists and duty managers.

Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training Level 3

 This programme is essential for any fitness professional wishing to progress onto REPs at Level 3 and start a career in personal training.

Level 2 Diploma in Sales

Learn the skills to help customers buy a product or service, whether face to face or on the phone. This programme are suitable for Sales Advisors and Managers and offer progression in sales and boost the performance of your department.

Level 2 & 3 Diplomas in Retail

These added value Programmes are essential for any team members wanting to work in a retail environment. Learners will become assertive retail professionals with the ability to interact confidently with customers, promote products and provide outstanding customer service. At level 3 there are a range of pathways that support progression to management.

Level 2 Diploma in Customer Service

Good customer service is key to the success of any business. Learn the skills to provide excellent customer service and ensure our guests are consistently dealt with in a positive, reliable and pleasant way – whether it’s by offering advice, answering questions or handling complaints. Suited to any member of staff working directly with customers

Chef Development

At The Hotel Collection we believe in having great quality restaurants many of which have won awards. Each restaurant and banqueting menus are individually designed by the hotels’ chefs taking into account seasonality and food trends – as well as keeping the costs in line!

Our Development Programmes: Professional Chef Academy

Our entry level programme is designed to set the foundations for your career and provides training and development in the following areas:

  • Use of knives
  • Food Safety; responsibilities, controls, storing and holding food
  • Prepare and cook meat and poultry
  • Prepare and cook fish
  • Prepare and cook soup
  • Prepare and cook hot sauces

In addition we will help you to develop effective team working and communication skills and complete a Level 2 Qualification in Professional Cookery. Upon completion of the Professional Chef Academy we aim to help you to continue your learning and development journey and progress in to a Chef De Partie role and eventually a Head Chef! To do this we encourage all our Chefs to develop a personal development plan which is tailored to address their own unique development needs and career aspirations. We also offer a number of Skills Development Programmes to help you develop your culinary and management skills including;
