Catering Team Leader - Forth Valley Hospital

35 Hours per week

Working 5 out of 7 days between 06:00am - 20:00pm

The Catering Department is responsible for a total meal service and hospitality services within the new NHS Acute Hospital for Forth Valley which has 860 beds on one site. It provides patient catering on a breakfast, lunch and supper service 365/6 days per year. It also provides a staff and visitor restaurant as a variety of vending and hospitality options during contracted hours. The Catering team leader is responsible for supervision and guidance of a group of staff to ensure high quality service delivery. Assist the Catering Manager operate within the £3m budget.

Job Purpose:

We are currently recruiting two Catering Team Leaders to co-ordinate an efficient catering team to maintain a clean, safe working environment adhering to health and safety working practises and food hygiene regulations and to assist in the delivery of all catering services to patients, staff and visitors within the hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compliance with HACCP requirements at all times
  • Supervision, allocation, direction and monitoring of catering assistants
  • Arranging duty rotas, annual leave and sickness cover
  • Assist in the development of departmental procedures and protocols.
  • Compile and maintain work schedules
  • Deliver ward stores and supplies to wards and departments when appropriate
  • Comply with departmental policies and procedures to provide an effective and efficient service.
  • Report faults and hazards
  • Ensure goods are stored correctly and stock is used on a rotational basis.
  • Ensure strict hygiene standards are maintained in line with Food Hygiene Regulations
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety Regulations
  • Participate in recruitment, training, absent management and personal development of Catering Assistants
  • Compilation of payroll data.
  • Reconciling of cash taking from Vending, retail outlets and Restaurant in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Participate in implementation of Serco Policies and Procedures
  • Responsible for securing and locking department at end of service
  • Occasionally required to conduct investigatory interviews

Skills and Experience:

  • Supervising other staff, monitoring work standards and team working essential.
  • Cash handling reconciliation banking procedures
  • Office knowledge -  excel spread sheet (good to have)
  • Good communication skills including a good telephone manner
  • Excellent customer care skills
  • Knowledge of working with chemicals for cleaning / COSSH awareness
  • Previous large scale catering experience
  • Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate (essential)
  • Institute of Leadership and Management, level 2 (ILM) or equivalent. (essential)
