Food To Go Team Leader - Bermondsey, London

Job Purpose (overview of the role)

As a Team Leader in Food to Go you will work as part of the FTG team and support the Duty Manager in leading the FTG team. You will ensure the team delivers great customer service, you will teach them to be operationally efficient, teach them to be able to work confidently on food, hot drinks, juices and tills and to follow health and safety guidelines.

Deliverables

What you will do

You will teach your team to be confident in working in the following areas:

  • Coffee – you will teach your team to work to barista level and be able to make a variety of coffees and speciality drinks.
  • Juices – you will show your team how to prepare the fruit and ingredients required in our juice and smoothie menus.
  • Food – you will teach them how to serve food correctly.
  • Tills – you will teach them how to process customer transactions quickly and efficiently.
  • Health and safety – you will teach them how to follow all requirements relating to health and safety and food safety for example temperature checks and keeping the area clean and tidy.

Teamwork

  • You will operationally work as part of the team serving customers as well as support your Duty Manager in the running of the department.
  • You may be asked to work in areas outside of your normal duties e.g. helping with the washing up or working in other areas of the store.

Product Knowledge

  • Have a stronger level of knowledge than a team member to be able to enthusiastically describe the food and beverages that are being served and be able to teach this to your team.
  • Ensure you and your team learn the ingredients and the benefits of new food to go menus

Customer Service

  • You will greet and engage all customers making them a priority, make recommendations and deliver a positive customer experience. 
  • You will teach your team how to do this.
  • Work and demonstrates a sense of urgency

Perfectly Done

  • Ensure your team has completed their new starter and Food to Go training
  • Teach your team to make coffee to Barista level, juices and smoothies to company standard, understand and describe the food on offer.
  • You and your team should serve customers at pace
  • Follow high standards of Food Safely and Health & Safety.
  • Adhere to Planet Organic’s grooming standards.
  • Ensure ordering is done in a careful and considered way to prevent wastage.
  • Ensure the back stock area, fridges and freezers are organised so that stock is visible and properly rotated.

Leadership

  • Lead and coach the team to a high standard.
  • Encourage and motivate the team to maximise sales and service.
  • Give positive feedback to the team and discuss areas for improvement.
  • Allocate tasks and breaks so everyone is clear of their responsibilities.
  • Organise rotas in advance using the appropriate IT system.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to undertake shift work across all days of the week and weekends
  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Lift gastronomes
  • Stretch across the counter
  • Move trolleys
  • Operate machinery e.g. juicers, blenders, coffee machines and ovens.
  • Able to work under pressure in a high volume, physically demanding department.
