Senior Teachers (Residential) - Oxford 

From 1st July to 13th August

Oxford Spires runs all year round integration and language school programmes offering residential and non-residential courses for young people. Students attending our schools receive 15-21 hours of English language tuition per week and a comprehensive programme of activities and excursions.  We are British Council Accredited, a member of English UK and English UK Young Learners, and strive to offer the highest quality learning experiences for all students who attend our schools.

Overview

The Senior Teacher is responsible for supporting teaching staff and maintaining the high standards of English tuition that Oxford Spires Language School strives to deliver.

Key Duties

  • With the support of the Centre Manager lead a team of teachers to ensure that they all adhere to high professional standards, and ensure the safety and welfare of all staff and students at all times
  • Teach engaging, communicative and appropriate lessons to students, following the weekly theme
  • Oversee the placement testing of students and allocate students to classes with the support of the Centre Manager
  • Support the Centre Manager with creating and implementing the staff rota
  • Ensure the teaching team has access to all resources needed to teach their classes
  • Hold daily meetings with teaching staff to ensure effective communication between teachers and encourage high quality lesson delivery, following the pre-set weekly themes and topics
  • Attend regular meetings with Senior Managers
  • Observe teachers regularly to ensure lessons are delivered to a high quality
  • Conduct formal staff reviews of the teaching team, with support from Senior Management Team
  • Assist and support teachers with lesson planning, where necessary
  • Induct any new teachers on site in all company policies and procedures
  • Organise and oversee professional development sessions throughout the summer
  • Supervise airport arrivals and departures as necessary
  • Oversee the organisation and execution of academic workshops for students
  • Take part in the overnight on call duty rota, usually once a week

Essential Requirements

  • CertTESOL/ CELTA qualification or equivalent
  • Excellent spoken and written English language skills, with a high level of communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer literate
  • Previous experience of working with young people at an EFL summer school, ideally in a management role
  • Ability to work under pressure, flexible with excellent organisational and problem solving skills
  • Hard-working and responsible attitude
  • All staff will be subject to safeguarding checks including an enhanced DBS disclosure

Desirable

  • DELTA, PGCE, TEFLI or TEFLQ qualification
  • Previous experience in creating lesson materials
  • Previous experience in leading a team of staff
  • Previous experience in supporting new teachers
  • First Aid certificate
  • Full, clean driving license
