After School Club Assistant - Oxford

Our After School Clubs are based at primary schools mainly in and around Oxford, and typically have 20-35 children aged 4-11 years attending each day. You will usually be working with a team of two to four other play workers, running activities, supervising, playing with children and keeping them safe.

Candidates must be enthusiastic, reliable, have proven experience of working with children, a positive attitude to work, a strong sense of responsibility, good communication skills, the ability to use their own initiative, and also be able to work as part of a team.

After School Club Assistants can work anything from one to five days a week at one or more clubs. Clubs are open in school term time only from 3.00pm to 5.30 or 6.00pm.

Job duties:

  • Helping ensure safe arrival of children at the club/camp and the safe delivery to carers at end of day
  • Taking part in the delivery of safe, creative, appropriate play opportunities in a fun and caring environment
  • Keeping children safe and minimizing risks in the play enviroment
  • Providing snacks/refreshments to the children
  • Administering first aid as appropriate
  • Being responsible for tidying rooms at the end of the day
  • Carrying out all responsibilities and activities within an equal opportunities framework
  • Working within agreed policies and procedures, being aware of staff responsibilities around the Safeguarding of children in our care

Person specification:

  • Experience or working with 4 – 11 year old children in a play environment
  • Ability to communicate at all levels, particularly with children
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • An appropriate qualification in Childcare or Playwork at NVQ Level 2 or the equivalent is desirable but not essential
  • Willingness to undertake appropriate training is desirable
  • Must have an enhanced DBS disclosure, either on the update service or less than 12 months old, or be prepared to undergo a new one
