Pastry Chef – Bristol

Old Down Estate, based just outside Bristol, which includes Old Down Manor, Foxhills Spa, Country Park, self catering cottages and glamping, has some exciting plans for the year to come.

We are looking for an innovative and experienced Pastry Chef to join the kitchen team. Working alongside our current Pastry Chef you will be required to prepare cakes and sweet treats for the café/Farm Shop as well as desserts for weddings and afternoon tea throughout the year. Our food offering is instrumental to the success of Old Down Estate. We are looking for someone who is a team player with a passion for pastry, is proactive and enjoys creating.

Responsibilities of the Pastry Chef

  • To devise and produce cakes, pastries, cookies, brownies etc for the Café/Farm Shop.
  • To devise and produce wedding desserts and elements for afternoon tea.
  • To ensure the Pastry section is clean and presented to a high standard at all times and H&S and Food Safety compliance is consistently achieved.
  • To train and support junior members of the kitchen team.
  • To work collaboratively with all departments in planning future events and attending relevant meetings as required.
  • To integrate into the wider team at Old Down to ensure stronger working relationships across the Park.

Previous experience required

  • To have worked as a Pastry Chef in a comparable kitchen – ideally with extensive experience in weddings/events or café/farm shop.
  • Experience in devising and implementing seasonal menus as well as excellent knowledge of dietary requirements and the ability to fulfil requirements.
  • Proactive approach to last minute changes – ability to adapt quickly.
  • Development of team members (commis chefs)
  • Proven experience in ensuring Health and Safety and Food Safety compliance are consistently adhered to.
