About Nuffield Health at St. Bartholomew's Hospital

In early 2022, we will open the doors to Nuffield Health at St Bartholomew's Hospital: The City of London's only independent hospital, situated next to St Bartholomew's NHS hospital. This will be our flagship centre for cardiac services and will also provide a full range of surgical and medical services, including orthopaedics, oncology, general surgery, gynaecology and urology services.

Nearby is the newly opened Barbican Fitness and Wellbeing Centre. Alongside the state-of-the-art multi-million pound gym floor and 25m heated indoor swimming pool is a dedicated rehabilitation area. Our on-site medical centre provides expert physiotherapy, emotional wellbeing services, private GP and travel clinic.

The rehabilitation team will work across the Nuffield Health at St Bartholomew's Hospital and the Barbican Fitness and Wellbeing Centre providing a connected health journey for our patients.

About the role

As a Senior Rehabilitation Assistant, you will assist the Rehabilitation Services Lead to deliver high quality patient centred rehabilitation services for cardiac and cancer patients. The successful candidate will be able to work independently under the direction of the Rehabilitation Services Lead in conducting patient assessments, functional capacity testing, as well as delivering small group and individual exercise training. You will work to maintain excellent relationships with all stakeholders including cancer and cardiac care leads, consultants, and clinical nurse specialists.

In addition, at times you may be required to help deliver hospital inpatient post-operative rehabilitation under the close guidance of physiotherapists and help support some operational requirements of the physiotherapy department. You will be expected to manage and prioritise a patient caseload. You will have the opportunity to contribute to service development and quality improvement.

About the person

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with experience of providing individual and group tailored exercise programmes for those with cardiovascular disease. The ideal candidate would also have experience of cancer rehabilitation. You should have a proven ability to work effectively in a team and have excellent communication and time management skills.

You will need to have:

  • Level 3 Personal trainer or relevant fitness qualification (CIMSPA recognised) OR BASES Certified Exercise Practitioner/ BASES Accredited Sports and Exercise Scientist

  • Level 4 BACPR cardiac rehabilitation exercise instructor qualification

  • (DESIRABLE) Level 4 qualification in cancer and exercise rehabilitation (CIMSPA recognised)

  • (DESIRABLE) NVQ Level 2 in health and social care - or willing to pursue this (within contracted hours and fully funded)

Candidates must be computer literate as we will be using an electronic patient record system
