Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Kitchen Porter. As a Kitchen Porter, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our kitchen. You will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards, assisting in food preparation, and supporting the kitchen team in various tasks.

Responsibilities:

Cleanliness and Sanitation:

• • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen, including equipment, utensils, and work surfaces.
  • Ensure all areas of the kitchen, including floors and walls, are kept clean and free from debris.
  • Follow proper sanitation procedures, such as dishwashing, sanitizing surfaces, and disposing of waste.

Food Preparation Assistance:

• • Assist the kitchen staff in basic food preparation tasks, such as chopping vegetables, peeling fruits, and preparing ingredients.
  • Follow recipes and instructions provided by the chefs or cooks to ensure accurate and efficient food preparation.
  • Support the kitchen team in organizing and storing ingredients, supplies, and equipment.

Dishwashing and Maintenance:

• • Operate commercial dishwashing equipment to clean dishes, cutlery, pots, pans, and other kitchen utensils.
  • Hand wash items that cannot be cleaned by the dishwasher.
  • Monitor and maintain proper chemical levels in the dishwasher and report any malfunctions or issues to the supervisor.

Waste Management:

• • Dispose of kitchen waste and recyclable materials in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Separate and recycle appropriate materials to promote environmental sustainability.
  • Regularly empty trash bins and clean waste disposal areas to maintain cleanliness and prevent odours.

Organisation and Stock Control:

• • Assist with inventory management by ensuring proper storage and rotation of stock.
  • Notify supervisors when supplies, cleaning products, or equipment need to be replenished.
  • Maintain a well-organized and clean stockroom, ensuring items are easily accessible and properly labelled.

Teamwork and Collaboration:

• • Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure smooth workflow and efficient operations.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and superiors, reporting any issues or concerns promptly.
  • Support and assist other kitchen staff members as needed during peak operational periods.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not required.
• Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills.
• Strong teamwork and communication abilities.
• Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects or equipment.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
