Payroll and Reward Manager - Watford Support Centre

Majestic Wines are the largest wine specialist in the UK with over 200 stores, as well as a very significant online presence, and megastores in France.

Following the merger between Naked Wines and Majestic, Rowan Gormley (Founder of Naked Wines and Chief Executive of the enlarged group), has set the wheels in motion of transforming the business into a new kind of retailer – a retailer that is loved by customers, loved by suppliers and loved by shareholders.

This transformation is brought to life by our talented team at the Support Centre, Watford, which houses all departments working behind the scenes such as People, Customer, IT, Transformation, Finance and Supply Chain.

We are looking for a strategic and organised person, to lead our Payroll team, to continue to offer a great Payroll service whilst looking for opportunities to enhance our compensation and benefits offering. 

Reporting to: People Director

Reports: The Payroll Team

Role:

Lead and manage the UK payroll, benefits and rewards for Majestic Wine.

Responsibilities:

PAYROLL:

  • Work with the payroll team to accurately manage the UK payroll using the pay & Benefits Matrix via payroll bureau activity on a monthly basis ensuring accuracy and timeliness are a priority
  • Work in collaboration with the payroll bureau to ensure any exceptions to the rule are managed accurately and correctly
  • Work in partnership with the payroll bureau to update, amend, rectify the payroll system to make sure it is constantly fit for purpose for the end Majestic user
  • Act is main systems administrator to maintain the hierarchy / back end of the payroll system so the reporting structure remains accurate on a monthly basis
  • Work in collaboration with the People Manager and People Director to implement the annual pay review and annual performance management process

  • Manage all benefits to ensure relevancy, accuracy of administration and visibility across all parts of Majestic
  • Work in collaboration with the share scheme administrator
  • Regularly review legal and trade publications to gather intelligence to inform pay policies;
  • Work with the People Director and CFO on all pension matters

TEAM

  • Lead and manage team of two Payroll Administrators
  • Be an active participant in our People team

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Previous leadership of a multi site, dynamic retail / hospitality payroll service
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of retail environment and approach issues with a solution focused commercially driven mind
  • Exemplary excel skills
  • Top class ability to manage tight timeframes under pressure with accuracy and timeliness at top of mind
