Would you like to work for Stockport’s Employer of the Year 2016 & Best Not for Profit Organisation 2015?

Are you passionate about working in a customer focused environment and delivering exceptional service?

Do you like the idea of developing a career within the leisure industry?

If you answered ‘YES’ to all the above questions, we would love to hear from you as we have exciting opportunities for Apprentices to join our award-winning team.   Applicants must demonstrate our Preferred Behaviours culture of being a Winner, Authentic, Together, Caring and Happy (W.A.T.C.H.).

If you’re wondering what it’s like to work for us, here’s what some of our team members have said about us:
“I enjoy working with Life Leisure to meet people and help them when needed.  Being a lifeguard or apprentice is a great starting point, you meet a lot of people and support them both in the pool and out.  You learn a lot and are given a lot of help.”

“My experience of working at Life Leisure is life changing.  A job I’ve always wanted to do, it’s great and I’m happy every time I’m on shift.  Staff and management always say thank you, good job or cheers every shift”

“The things that I enjoy about working for life leisure are, being part of an enthusiastic team and I have also been into swimming from a young age so I really enjoy working around this environment.”

“My experience of working here is that it’s an easy going but a very professional working environment with nice co- workers, and is enjoyable and fun when appropriate.”

As you can see we have a very happy team and many of our team members have progressed through the organisation into new roles, continuing their personal journey with us in whatever direction that might be for them.

Our culture of Preferred Behaviours = Personal Best underpins that we do at lifeleisure.  All staff who are recognised as demonstrating the Preferred Behaviours have the opportunity to be invited to join our Sentinel Programme where they take an active role in the future of lifeleisure by creating, developing and implementing new idea and products/services, whilst learning new skills which help them become lifeleisure‘s future leaders.  To find out more about our W.A.T.C.H. principles watch our video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAgMDrHMNOw.

In addition to our highly-regarded Sentinel programme, other benefits you’ll receive through working for lifeleisure include:

  • Gym membership
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Extensive training opportunities
  • 6 weeks’ annual leave (rising to 7 after 5 years’ service)

With the option to study a range of leisure-related subjects, our Apprentices work towards a qualification over 12 months (part time apprentices may have to work for 18-24 months) whilst gaining first hand leisure experience working on the front line within our centres or within a support role at our Head Office in Cheadle Hulme.  This could be through working as an Administrator, Lifeguard, Receptionist, Swimming Teacher, Sports Coach, Football Assistant or a mixture of these roles (depending on centre).

The nature of business requires candidates to be enthusiastic, responsible and hardworking individuals as day to day our Apprentices will work to support Life Leisure’s centres.  Some examples of the day-to-day activities of an Apprentice include: delivering exceptional customer service, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, supervising swimming sessions, delivering teaching/coaching sessions, and assisting with general day to day operations.

You’ll have the option to study the following qualifications (subject to availability), and additional qualifications may be offered during the Apprenticeship where candidates perform to exceptionally high standards:

  • Customer Service
  • Business Administration
  • Leisure Operations
  • Swimming Teaching & Sports Coaching
  • Sports Development & Coaching

For many of our team members an Apprenticeship has been a stepping stone towards a career in the leisure industry, going into other areas of the business and eventually management roles over time.

The apprenticeships at lifeleisure Avondale, Cheadle, Grand Central and Hazel Grove require candidates to carry our lifeguard duties and therefore having the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is essential.  If you don’t currently hold the NPLQ it’s not a problem we can train you, but you will need to pass the course to be successful for this role.  You must be a strong swimmer to take part in the lifeguard course, including being able to do the following:

  • Jump / dive into deep water
  • Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool
  • Climb out unaided without ladder / steps and where the pool design permits

If you’re not sure whether you are a strong enough swimmer we can check your swimming ability, just let us know!

If you would like to be considered for an Apprenticeship with lifeleisure, feel you would be a great addition to the team, and have both enthusiasm and ambition to develop with us and achieve your personal best, you should apply for this role.
