Our benefits

Financial benefits (Non-Teaching Staff)

Holiday

Full time employees enjoy a generous standard annual leave entitlement of 30 days (including bank holidays) plus up to 5 closure days at Christmas.

Pension

The pension is an important part of the reward package and a great way to help our staff plan for their future.  Employees who are aged 22 and eligible (subject to the Rules and Terms of the plan) will be auto-enrolled in a Defined Contribution Pension Plan currently administered by Aviva and the employer contribution matches the employee contribution up to a certain level.  The standard employer contribution for non-teaching staff is 6% with a minimum 3% employee contribution.

Sports facilities

Sports Centre

Staff can use many of the School’s facilities and are entitled to join the Harrow School Sports Club (HSSC). Membership is subsidised by the School and membership gives access to the swimming pool and the fitness suite within the Sports Centre at specified times.

Sports clubs

Reduced fee membership to the Harrow School Golf Club is also available, and for those interested in fishing, there is an angling club with access to a fully stocked lake. Employees may also join the popular tennis club and have access to the School’s tennis courts at specified times.

Food

Hot meals

All staff who work at least six hours a day are entitled to a free meal in the School’s Central Dining Hall.  There are three hot meal options (including one vegetarian option each day), an extensive salad bar, at least one desert option and fresh fruit. Teams often take the time to lunch together, socialise and take a proper break.

Packed lunches

For those who are busy at lunch time or who prefer to picnic in the School grounds, a packed lunch option is also available in a takeaway bag.

School services

The Hill Shop

The School runs a shop on The Hill which sells a wide range of Harrow School branded gifts, stationery, cards and confectionary. All employees of the School are entitled to claim a 10% discount.

Hair stylist

There is a hair salon on The Hill behind The Hill Shop that is used by the boys and is very reasonably priced. Staff are welcome to book their own appointments here too.

The Vaughan Library

All members of staff are entitled to access and borrow the resources from the School library. There are over 30,000 items of stock, including books, CDs and DVDs, as well our online resources which include Naxos Music Library and Oxford Online Collection. The reading room houses a large collection of fiction and literary criticism, and the upper floors support our academic subjects and boys' wider areas of interest. There are reading lists and displays on new and prize-winning books, as well as classic and favourite reads.

Employee Assistance Programme

All employees and their immediate family have access to the School’s Employee Assistance Programme. This is a completely confidential free telephone-based professional advice and 24-hour counselling service.

Entertainment

Enjoying the talents of the school community

Lunchtime music concerts

Every Tuesday during term time, talented boys from our music school perform 20-minute concerts at St Mary’s Church on the Hill. Employees and members of the public may visit and enjoy a breathtakingly high standard of musical skill using a variety of instruments and musical styles.

Visits to the Observatory

The Rayleigh Observatory opened in 2012 and features research-quality telescopes, cameras and filters. There are open evenings for all staff, families and friends to come and gaze upon deep sky objects including galaxies, clusters, and nebulae millions of light years away.

The Arts Calendar

A seasonal calendar of events is published throughout the year. It contains drama, music and art exhibitions from boys and Old Harrovians. The events may be on site at the Art School, theatrical productions in the Ryan Theatre or a showcase of genres at the Harrow Fringe Festival held in May.

Joining in with the life of the School

Harrow holds four special events each year. Tickets are either free or at a low cost.

Harrow v Eton Varsity Polo Match

Every year on a Saturday in June Harrow School plays Eton College at Guards Polo Club in Windsor Great Park - it is the highlight of the polo season. The School has a certain number of free tickets and staff take a picnic and enjoy the day out whilst cheering our boys on.

Harrow v Eton Cricket Match

Since 1805 Harrow has met Eton at Lord’s Cricket Ground in one of the longest-running annual sporting fixtures in the world, and the only annual school match at Lord’s. It is held on a Saturday in June.

Family fun day

Every August a fun day is held for all members of staff and their families. It is a chance for everyone to get together and enjoy each other’s company before the new School year begins. There is a barbecue, inflatables for the children and other family entertainments such as face painting and food treats.

Christmas Lunch

Every year, just after term has ended, all of the non-teaching staff are invited to gather in the Central Dining Hall for a staff Christmas lunch.  Lunch comes with all the trimmings and is served by members of the senior management team, senior non-teaching managers and by teaching staff.  It is always a wonderful event and is greatly enjoyed by the staff that attend each year.––
