Deputy Sports Facilities Manager - Harrow, London

Location: Harrow School
Salary: £31,000 - £33,000 pa
Job Type: Permanent - Full time - 40 hours per week

The role:

The Deputy Sports Facilities Manager has a pivotal role, being responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Fitness Club under the direction of the Sports Facilities Manager. You will manage a diverse team, oversee the safety and smooth running of the facilities, and manage two financial budgets to maximise the assets of the business as it serves both the School and its commercial money-generating activities. It’s a busy and influential role, where your daily tasks might switch between discussing business improvements with your manager, overseeing a visiting swimming gala and supporting customers of the Fitness Club.

The skills:

It is an ideal position for an ambitious duty manager of a leisure centre with excellent line-management skills who wants to broaden their management experience and commercial awareness to make their mark on the business. It’s also a unique and exciting opportunity to involve yourself in a large project, as the site will move to a state-of-the-art new Fitness Club in around four years’ time. You will have a RLSS NPLQ qualification, experience of swimming pool operation and have demonstrable experience of providing an exemplary customer service to all leisure users.

The environment:

Harrow School is situated in Harrow on the Hill in north-west London and is one of the best-known schools in the world. Around 840 boys study at Harrow and live in the School’s 12 boarding houses. The Fitness Centre comprises a 25m swimming pool, fully equipped fitness suite, sports hall and climbing wall, and is programmed to cater for the needs of the School, high-profile events with well-known national sports teams and a thriving health and fitness club that is open to the public, other schools and clubs.

The benefits include:

  • Free lunch.
  • Free parking.
  • Automatic enrolment in the School’s pension scheme.
  • Use of the School’s sports facilities such as the swimming pool, gym, and running track.
  • Subsidised membership of the tennis, golf, angling and social clubs.

Closing date for applications: Wednesday 31 May 2023

Applications will be processed as they are received and we may interview suitable candidates before the closing date; therefore early application is advised.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All successful applicants must be willing to undergo enhanced child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with any past employer and the Disclosure and Barring Service, and it is an offence to apply for the role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. No member of staff will be able to start until these checks are complete and this process takes, on average, a month. Please plan accordingly.
