Dudley Library is looking for a new Librarian to assist the Library Manager in the day-to-day running of the facility. It is one of 13 libraries in Dudley Borough which is operated by GLL and is situated in the heart of the community. The library issues over 88,000 items each year and receives over 53,000 visits. Activities for both children and adults are key priorities for staff at Halesowen Library and it has an excellent reputation for customer service and community engagement.

 

As a customer-focussed Librarian, you'll play an active role in developing the library and services offered in order to expand usage whilst also building on our existing community engagement ethos. You will lead on a high standard of response to customer enquiries as well as assisting senior managers with the planning and implementation of activity programmes for adults and children. A real people person, you'll be able to manage and inspire a small team. You'll thrive on variety and undertake a range of tasks including stock control, general administration including cash handling, safety and security of the building as well as being hands-on with frontline service delivery, supporting Reading Groups or Rattle and Rhyme Sessions etc. You'll also build good relationships with local contacts to both enhance the service and ensure that the library is an integral part of the community.

 

An enthusiastic and passionate manager, you will possess an excellent understanding of all library operations including budgetary control, stock development, people management and building management within a public library. Naturally, you'll have excellent ICT knowledge and the ability to identify the needs of the community around you whilst instilling excellent customer service standards in your team. Knowledge of safeguarding children will be essential. This role offers a great opportunity to get involved at every level to develop your knowledge of running a library.
