Qualifications

WINE AND SPIRIT EDUCATION TRUST (WSET) COURSES

Perfect for wine enthusiasts, these courses are ideal for those looking for a detailed and structured wine education. WSET courses are the backbone of the wine industry in the UK and are internationally recognised.

WSET LEVEL 2

The focus of this course is ‘looking behind the label’. It offers a broad understanding of the wine regions of the world, demonstrates tasting techniques and introduces the key styles of spirits. Holders of the award should be able to read a label from any wine or spirit, and understand the basic style behind the label – so when you are out at dinner, the wine list should make sense.

WSET LEVEL 3

Building on the Level 2 award, this course gives a more in-depth understanding of the wine regions of the world. A solid grounding in growing, making and tasting wine, participants will learn about the key spirits and liqueurs of the world, including production and tasting.

Food safety

FOOD HYGIENE & SAFETY LEVEL 2

This course has been designed to help anyone who handles, prepares or serves food in the catering industry understand their legal responsibilities at work. Participants will learn about the key aspects of food hygiene practice and know how to minimise food safety hazards. This is a nationally recognised qualification.

FOOD HYGIENE & SAFETY LEVEL 3 – MANAGEMENT

The role of the manager is critical. They must be well-trained to establish the very best principles of food safety in the workplace, instruct their own staff in the correct practical methods and oversee the required monitoring and recording systems. This is a nationally recognised qualification in the catering industry.

FIRST AID AT WORK

This course is aimed at people working, or preparing to work, in an industry identified as low risk. First aid is the responsibility of everybody in a working environment. The topics covered in the course are important to maintaining good practice, so that injuries and ill health are always dealt with safely, promptly and effectively.

Licensing

BRITISH INSTITUTE OF INNKEEPING AWARDING BODY (BIIAB) LEVEL 2 AWARD FOR PERSONAL LICENSE HOLDERS

This APLH course and qualification acts as a safeguard for the premises licence, as it strengthens the defence of due diligence where prosecutions may affect a company’s continued operations. Course participants have to demonstrate key knowledge on the Licensing Act of 2003 and the core licensing issues, in order to pass the APLH exam. The personal licence course is essential for anyone assuming the position of designated premises supervisor (DPS). A DPS must hold a personal licence.

National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)

The NVQ is a work-based qualification which recognises the skills and knowledge a person needs to do a job. The candidate must demonstrate their competency in their chosen role or career path. This is a nationally recognised qualification and can be gained while you are working at Gaucho.
