Our Sports and Community Development Managers help get the community involved with sport and physical activity. A key player on the division’s Sports and Community Development team, as the Sports and Community Development Manager you will be responsible for engaging with relevant local organisations, organising and delivering a range of activities and services and driving overall participation at local centres.

The Role Includes:

  • Lead the sport and community strategic, developmental and operational challenges for the Division.  To implement and develop the Sport and Physical Activity Annual Service Plan, and to support the funded programmes Service Level Agreements.
  • Play a full and positive role in the team supporting the Divisional Business Manager in the operation of Fusion’s facilities within the Division and support the Head of Sports and Community Development in the coordination of corporate sports and community development initiatives 
  • To regularly brief the Divisional Business Manager and Head of Sports and Community Development on matters relevant to the work of the Division and provide timely reports on all sports and community development activity when required.
  • To identify, establish and develop substantial programmes, aimed at increasing levels of physical activity through a coordinated approach with other key partners for the development of sport taking into consideration national, regional and county strategies and agendas for sport
  • To work in partnership to develop and implement new sports development initiatives across LB Hounslow in partnership with local providers in the voluntary, educational and commercial sectors.
  • To maintain “Good” in Quest accreditation for Sport Development
  • To actively seek and apply for new sources of funding, both internally and externally and prepare evaluation reports/business cases, as appropriate and provide advice to external groups wishing to formulate grant applications. Maintain partnerships with existing funders, reporting key performance indicators and project measures to partners.
  • To manage and control budgets, monitor income and expenditure for the section. Carry out critical financial management reviews to ensure value for money.
  • To contribute to the development and implementation of the Hounslow Physical Activity & Sports Strategy.
  • To work with Hounslow’s Community Sport & Physical Activity Network to achieve a coordinated approach to the development of sport and physical activity throughout the borough.
  • To lead the organisation of the Borough’s entry into the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games and other in-borough and inter-borough competitions and events.
  • To coordinate the Sportivate Programme on behalf of LB Hounslow in line with Sport England's priority of 14-25yr olds.
  • To undertake outreach work with outside organisations, individuals and groups in order to establish and develop relationships with prospective participants from priority groups..
  • To work with school sport and physical activity networks and children and young people agencies to ensure sporting opportunities for young people are maximised both in the community and across the Leisure Centres.
  • Establish, and subsequently monitor, key performance indicators and targets for the section.
  • Be responsible for the professional conduct of subordinate staff and coaches, oversee the recruitment process and appraise staff within the SCD team.
  • Attend meetings as required which may be outside normal office hours and at weekends

The successful Sports and Community Development Manager will have:

  • A degree in sports development, related programme of study or suitable experience 
  • Experience planning and delivering sports and community development activities within a multi-site business
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Knowledge of relevant sports and leisure agendas
  • Knowledge of healthy living concepts and ideals
  • Good communication and computer skills
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, equal opportunities and managing diversity
