The Role

The purpose of the Senior Business Analyst role is to reduce risk in project delivery and to maximise the return that Carnival UK receives from its investments in change projects.

The Senior Business Analyst achieves this by ensuring that project stakeholders have a shared understanding of the changes being delivered by a project. The Senior Business Analyst builds this shared understanding to a level of detail and completeness sufficient to validate the project’s business case and to form a sound basis for design, business impact and test activities.

The Senior BA coaches and mentors other BAs. Where assigned to lead a project with multiple workstreams or multiple BAs, the Senior BA defines ways of working, organises and coordinates this work.

To be effective, all BAs must be influential and credible with a range of stakeholders. Senior BAs are trusted advisors to senior stakeholders - often at VP level and above.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work to understand strategic context of project work.

  • Challenge project scope / approach where not aligned with strategic requirements of business.

  • Play a key role in defining and assuring standards and ways of working across BA team.

  • Define, coordinate and provide assurance for workstreams resources, including coaching and mentoring Business Analysts.

  • Working closely with IT colleagues (architects, developers, testers, etc.) and a variety of stakeholders to ensure required outcomes are achieved.

  • Develop and negotiate ways of working, standards, plans, and deliverables with customers, suppliers, partners and peers.

  • Has key responsibilities for assessment of project benefits – demonstrating traceability from project scope to benefits, ensuring that the impact of scope changes to benefits cases are understood.

  • Actively seeks opportunities to drive down complexity (and thereby cost) of projects.

  • Operates effectively across a range of stakeholders – typically from individual contributors to VP level – acting as a trusted advisor.

  • Operates effectively across a range of domains – commercial, operational, maritime, support services.

  • Build and maintains appropriate and effective business relationships.

  • Produce and maintain plans for scoping / shaping, requirements elicitation, analysis, documentation and sign off.

  • Investigate and document as-is capabilities.

  • Elicit requirements using a variety of methods – documentation, shadowing, interviews, workshops.

  • Analyse requirements for fitness for purpose, internal consistency and quality as well as adherence to business objectives.

  • Support for implementation activities including the provision of go live requirements and contribution to business readiness for the solution.

  • Contribute to project reporting.

  • Is fully accountable for meeting allocated technical and/or project/supervisory objectives.

 

Experience Required:

  • Strong experience working in roles associated with technology change projects.

  • Proven experience working in a Business Analysis capacity.

  • Experience of building and maintaining trusted relationships with senior business leaders.

  • Experience of working in international teams.

  • Experience of working with geographically remote stakeholders.

  • Experience of supervising the work of Business Analysts.

  • Experience of a relevant business sector e.g. retail, travel, hotel, food and beverage, supply chain, engineering, digital, etc.

  • Expert in:

    • Requirements elicitation techniques (e.g. workshops, interviews).

    • Requirements modelling techniques (e.g. declarative requirements, use cases, user stories, information modelling).

    • Business process modelling techniques.

       

Education, Qualifications and Training:

Essential:

  • Educated to bachelor degree level or

  • Equivalent academic qualifications or

  • Extensive professional history of learning, problem solving, challenging effectively in diverse environments.

Desirable:

  • Holds a relevant professional qualification e.g. BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis (formerly ISEB), or the IIBA Chartered Business Analysis Practitioner (CBAP).

  • Holds any relevant IT qualifications e.g. the ITIL Foundation certificate.
