Communications Manager - Shore Based - Southampton

The HR division within Corporate Shipbuilding is newly formed, and although small (soon to be perfectly formed) there is a big agenda to deliver. Working in conjuction with the HR lead, this position will define and deliver the internal communications framework, as well as supporting our broader stakeholder engagement within the Carnival group.

Key responsibilities

  • Establish an internal communications strategy in conjunction with senior leaders

  • Defines and designs the internal core communication framework for CCS, as well as the framework for CCS to use in their communications with the Operating Companies/Brands.

  • Educates colleagues on the purpose of each communication vehicle, giving advice on the most appropriate vehicle for their intended outcomes and providing clarity on the submission/sign-off process

  • Leads the internal editorial agenda for CCS, planning, writing, editing, proofreading, curating and commissioning content for a variety of internal communications mediums, such as a staff intranet, monthly magazine or regular email bulletin. You may also be required to work on the layout of content.

  • Ensure internal communication messages are consistent across all mediums and for different functions within CCS

  • Shares audience insight (Southampton and Sites) to co-create plans, draft communications, templates and toolkits as needed

  • Measures and reports on the effectiveness of communication activities, suggesting additional activities and alterations to the plan as needed

  • Translates complex information into timely, clear and engaging messaging, tailored to different audiences as appropriate

  • Draft messages or scripts from senior leaders for presentation to employees in written or spoken form

  • Ensure internal communication messages are consistent with external communication messages

  • Undertakes administrative tasks as needed to ensure the success of communications

  • Devise an annual communications budget for CCS, maintaining and tracking budget and costs for any project spend.

  • Contribute to broader engagement activities, as directed by the HR Director.

About You

You will have proven experience of delivering a communications, ideally to remote customers or in a multi-site environtment. You will have excellent written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex documents into clear and easy-to-understand messages.. You will have strong influencing and organisation skills, with the ability to work under pressure to tight timescales. You will need to be comfortable travelling to our different locations, representing HR and Corporate Shipbuilding when you are there.
