What does a ceramics and pottery instructor do?

Sculpting masterpieces and firing up the kiln, teaching ceramics at summer camp is a creative and rewarding activity for children all ages. As the ceramics instructor you’ll find yourself teaching each project over 2 sessions - the first working with wet clay and the second allowing the campers to paint and glaze the projects - so they can dry out and be fired in between.

From pots to picture frames, campers love taking their projects home.

You should have creativity and patience. You should look to highlight your ability and skill level with clay work, and show you are able to use a kiln and pottery wheel confidently. Adding a portfolio to your application is also a great way to give insight to you and your style.

Why should I teach ceramics at camp?

If you love the throwing down the clay and getting creative then why not teach something you’re passionate about this summer.

Camp directors are looking for skilled individuals to teach ceramics, those who are passionate and can really make clay work exciting and fun for children. If you haven’t taught before but would like to and can confidently use the equipment, then this could be a great opportunity for you - just show your enthusiasm.

This is a fantastic way to have a cultural experience and to build on your own project work, pottery jobs at camp are an extraordinary way to spend your summer.
