Black Rock Restaurant Group:

Having started in 2011 in Brighton, Black Rock Restaurant Group is now made up of 4 Brighton based restaurants and 1 London based restaurant. Within that we currently have 4 different brands, The Coal Shed, The Salt Room, Burnt Orange and Tutto (opening in August). We’re looking for a Human Resources Manager (HR) to join our team to consolidate and build their team. Prior experience in HR and recruitment is vital. You will need a minimum of 3 years previous experience in a similar role with qualifications to support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

We are looking for an HR Manager who can bring together strategies and people related processes aligned with the law, to manage the company’s workforce by means of our fundamental ethos of:

“RECRUIT, DEVELOP AND RETAIN”.

You will consistently deliver a pro-active and professional service to the business through effective communication with the senior management teams and by instilling a foundation for the relationship between employee and employer.

You will be responsible resourcing and talent management, learning and training (giving guidance and supervision to our training development manager), reward and performance management, employee relations, employee welfare and employee engagement. In this way it will formulate solutions to ensure continued maximum performance is reached, improving operational effectiveness, and contributing to the overall business performance.

You will need to aim to be inspirational, continually strive to challenge, influence, listen, develop and recognise the need of the individual whilst balancing the demands of the organisation for skilled, competent motivated, focused employees.

We are eager to find an HR Manager who easily connects with people and has a detail-oriented mindset to handle the changing nature of the workforce.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To ensure Our Team is full of positive, people focused individuals with a real passion for hospitality and what we do.
  • Leading the recruitment process, including selection and interviewing candidates.
  • Champion a performance culture and continuously review productivity and employee development, making and actioning recommendations for improvement.
  • Create a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Manage and improve communication.
  • Keep track of employee performance.
  • Control the HR Budget and report on current and future staffing costs and initiatives.
  • Act as an adviser to managers on employee policies.
  • Contribute insights and recommendations in the strategy decisions of the organization.
  • Provide human and business savvy advice and support on people related matters from hiring, performance, employee relations that are always up to speed with all UK legislations.
  • To attract and develop the top talents of the organization to drive a higher level of engagement in the company, whilst building a talent pipeline.
  • Implement employee retention programs.
  • Collect data on organization’s polices and guidelines and makes changes where needed.
  • Turn data into insight and proactively identify emerging themes and issues, then design, recommend and deliver people interventions to help us improve.
  • Ensure report requests from Directors, Operations and Support Teams are actioned in a timely manner
  • Maintain employee records including contracts and work permits.
  • Be able to issue job offers and contracts.
  • Make sure employees adhere to company polices and act as advisor to managers on employee policies.
  • Be accountable for ensuring people perform to the best they can.
  • Align employees needs with organization’s requirements.
  • Supervise employees and assist in strategic staffing plans and management.
  • Handle highly confidential information in an honest and trustworthy way.
  • Track key recruiting metrics, like turnover rates and source of hire.
  • Identify fluctuations in local, seasonal & national recruitment trends and offer solutions in a timely manner that action can be taken to prevent any negative impact to the business.
  • To be point of contact when employees have job related issues.
  • Handle conflicts, disciplinary actions, and terminations in line with organisation policy.
  • Manage employment relations issues such as grievances and employee welfare.
  • Ensure full knowledge of brand standards and any changes or updates.
  • Adapt to new trends and technology.
  • Oversee and conduct company appraisals.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:

To be successful in this role, we require you to have 3 years previous experience as an HR manager, preferably in the hospitality industry with CIPD level qualifications, BSc in Human Resources or similar field.

  • Charismatic and talented individual with a genuine attitude for people.
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Have a high attention to detail and be self-motivating, to work actively and not passively
  • Up to date knowledge of recruitment and staff retention methods.
  • Strong competency interviewing and selection skills with hands-on experience recruiting junior senior, seasonal and part-time positions.
  • Up to date knowledge of UK employment law.
  • Extensive knowledge of policies and procedures relating to an HR function.
  • Strong drive for results and track record of achievement.
  • Strong computer literacy.
  • Excellent people skills, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Have the ability to speak to people and deliver messages in the right way.
  • Experience in advising and managing grievance and disciplinary investigations.
  • Previous Experience in Team leading and managing an HR function.
  • Additional experience in Restaurants management is a plus.
  • Increased HR support will be needed at times, especially as new openings are rolled out and therefore full working flexibility will be required to meet the demands of the business.
