The Head of Catering is responsible for overseeing all catering operations, leading on the catering strategy and effectively managing the department to achieve profit targets. This is an exciting role that works across a variety of business units with the opportunity to strategically plan creative and innovative food and beverage offers relevant to Alexandra Palace's diverse audiences.

Key duties and responsibilities

  1. Provide leadership and direction to the catering team setting objectives and reviewing performance
  2. Collaborate with senior management to tailor the F&B offer to a variety of audiences with consideration for potential new revenue streams reflecting industry trends and customer expectations
  3. Contribute to strategic business planning presenting ideas for growth and development in new project areas designed to deliver an excellent customer experience
  4. Review resourcing levels to enable the effective management of overheads to achieve financial targets
  5. Design, deliver and monitor customer service standards to improve the visitor experience
  6. Manage the standard operating procedures for the department
  7. Identify and manage F&B contracts with relevant third party suppliers
  8. Analyse monthly budget performance to assess the department's performance and adjust operational strategy accordingly

Essential

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent with English and Maths
  • Demonstrable experience in a senior management role preferably gained in a venue
  • Experience motivating and managing a large team
  • Experience delivering exceptional customer service standards
  • Experience managing budgets
  • Experience meeting and exceeding commercial sales targets
  • Experience of procuring and managing high value contracts
  • Experience delivering and maintaining 5* food hygiene standards
  • Excellent numerical skills with the ability to read and interpret financial data
  • Strong written skills with the ability to write reports and business cases
  • Confident decision maker with the ability to critically and constructively evaluate performance
  • Available to work some unsocial hours

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Personal liquor license
  • Food hygiene level 3
