The Nelson is situated in Mudeford, a former fishing village at the mouth of Christchurch harbour with an expanding population sitting now at approximately 4,000. Mudeford is a dense residential area on the outskirts of Christchurch but also benefits greatly in the summer months from tourism. The Nelson is in excellent condition after significant investment from Admiral Taverns in December 2016. This comprised of a full upgrade of all customer facing parts of the building so that we could accommodate a premium customer experience.

  • Recently refurbished to a high standard
  • Excellent location in the village of Mudeford on the South Coast of Christchurch
  • Thriving business opportunity

Trading style

The Nelson Tavern is an Admiral Taverns flagship, after having significant investment in December 2016. It was converted from a failing Thai food concept to home cooked traditional country fayre with an onsite pastry chef. We have six cask conditioned beers available from back bar dispense and new dispense equipment from Delta Bridge with lagers, craft and ciders, catering for everyone. The offer and service delivered at the Nelson Tavern is of a very high standard and this can be supported by the fantastic reviews and very positive social media presence. Admiral Taverns are looking for a driven licensee with a high level of catering experience to maintain and continue the great food offer that has already been developed and is expected of this site. Alongside this we need our new licensee to have a passion for cask and craft beers.

Trade accommodation

The pub has a traditional and cosy feel with an L shaped main bar area with open fires making a comfortable casual dining and drinking experience. There is a large restaurant area to the back of the pub with circa 60 covers that naturally in the summer opens onto a south facing hard landscaped rear garden via sliding bifold doors increasing the capacity of this area to over 120 covers. There is a car park to the side of the property that will hold approximately 12 cars. However, there is on road parking and plenty of car parks locally. The current offer is very much a premium dining experience but there is great scope to establish the offer further and to encourage a more diverse range of customer with a constant rotation of cask conditioned and craft beers. The large garden leads itself to regular garden parties and or beer festivals as these were always popular at the Nelson Tavern in its previous tenure. The fully equipped commercial kitchen is in the centre of the site with access to both the bar restaurant and garden.

Private accommodation

The private accommodation consists of three double bedrooms a kitchen / diner, lounge and bathroom, all having recently undergone refurbishment.
