In a nutshell
The role involves being responsible for certain financial controls of the Group. This includes maintaining accurate and timely books of account for the VAL Group and its subsidiaries. You will also provide balance sheet analysis and insight to senior leadership, and assist with reporting requirements.
Deliver high-quality accounting expertise under IFRS and UK GAAP, informing and advising senior management and the team on accounting decisions. Clearly communicate implications to collaborators, including auditors and finance teams.
As the person in charge, you will be responsible for managing the monthly balance sheet reconciliation process. This entails ensuring that all reconciliations are completed and reviewed in a timely manner and meet the required level of quality. Your expertise in preparing or reviewing balance sheet reconciliations will be crucial in rigorously assessing their accuracy and completeness. Additionally, you will need to provide monthly reports to the Financial Operations Leadership team, highlighting the most important items.
Day to day
Provide high-quality technical accounting mentorship on all aspects of International Financial Reporting Standards and FRS101.
Responsible for advancing the monthly balance sheet reconciliation process, holding reconciliation owners accountable, and bringing up areas of concern to Senior Manager / VP as appropriate.
Accountable for the quarterly balance sheet pack, providing insightful commentary and review of quarterly variances to finance VPs and CFO.
Supporting the Financial Reporting team through the annual audit and year-end reporting cycle.
Monitoring compliance with general ledger conventions, including chart of account usage and manual journal entries.
About you
Qualified ACA, ACCA, CIMA
Considerable post-qualification experience
Demonstrates deep knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards and FRS 101 with the ability to articulate technical accounting requirements to influence decision making
Evidence of strong ability to exercise independent professional judgment and problem-solving skills within an overall business context
Experience of working within a fast-paced finance department or audit firm, resilient personality, and the ability to self-motivated
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to distil complex accounting issues into clear simple messages and explain to non-financial collaborators.
Strong systems knowledge and experience.
Understanding of Oracle Financials
Proven capability to prioritise work, working under pressure and delivering to tight deadlines
Strong attention to detail and high analytical capability; ability to think critically and provide insightful challenge
Strong on MS Office in particular Excel
Proven ability in dashboard reporting (e.g., in Power BI)
