Summary
Being a Visitor Experience Officer for the National Trust is all about people – connecting with them, inspiring them, and making sure they have the best possible day when they come to visit.
This is a fixed term contract due to end when the postholder returns to the role. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months, and will involve working regular weekends and occasional evenings. It will involve working on Castle Drogo’s offer for families, marketing and making sure each visitor has a great experience when they visit.
This role is required to work with vulnerable groups including children and any offer of employment or volunteering is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
What it's like to work here
You’ll be reporting to the Senior Programming and Partnerships Officer working as part of the Visitor Experience team at Castle Drogo on Dartmoor. 2025 will be an exciting year to join the team as we celebrate 50 years since Castle Drogo was first open to the public.
Castle Drogo stands high above the ancient woodlands of the Teign Gorge. Inspired by the rugged Dartmoor tors that surround it, the castle was designed and built by renowned 20th-century architect Sir Edwin Lutyens.
Outside there is a Lutyens designed garden which is colourful in all seasons, and there are miles of pathways and abundant nature to explore and discover in the Teign Gorge.

What you'll be doing
As Visitor Experience Officer, your main focus will be providing a great service for visitors. This will include leading a fun and engaging offer for families, especially during Easter, Summer and Christmas. You’ll help make sure our information for visitors is clear and interesting, including updating signage, the website, social media and other marketing channels.
You will be supervising and supporting volunteers and assisting the day to day running of the castle. You’ll be checking presentation on site and helping with events, activities and exhibitions to bring Castle Drogo’s story to life and celebrate 50 years of being open to the public.
