We are looking for an experienced Butchery Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for meat and a keen eye for detail. The Butchery Assistant will be responsible for preparing, cutting, and packaging meat products, as well as maintaining the cleanliness of the work area. The successful candidate will have excellent knife skills, knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Breaking down of carcases of various species.
- De boning and trimming.
- Cutting meat as required.
- Support with health and safety regulations and systems, maintaining a high level of safety, hygiene, and housekeeping.
- Wear the correct clothing and maintain a clean working environment.
- Complete and record accurately all paperwork as required.
- Ensuring meat is always kept at the correct temperature.
- Packaged and labelled cuts of meat.
- Cut, grind and prepare meats and meat products for delivery.
- Clean and maintain tools and equipment
- Perform quality inspections on meats and other products.
- Adhere to food safety and sanitation controls
Personal qualities for success in this role:
- Must be able to stay calm during stressful / busy situations and prioritise the workload efficiently.
- Good communication skills.
- A reasonable level of fitness as the job is 'on its feet all day'
- The ability to work as part of a team.
- Required Competencies
- Excellent knife skills and understanding of butchery techniques.
- Experience of handling raw meat products, wearing protective clothing and adhering to strict hygiene practices.
- Experience of working in cold environments and lifting heavy objects.
