Hours: 37.5 Monday to Friday 

Location: Hybrid remote working, with 3 days a week in our VHQ

Contract: 12 Month Secondment / FTC

In a nutshell

Are you ready to play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate and reliable financial reporting for Virgin Atlantic (VAA) and Virgin Atlantic Holidays (VAH)? We're looking for someone to help establish, operate, and oversee the RPA and TBox accounting flows into the General Ledger (G/L), supporting effective business and regulatory reporting in collaboration with the Manager - Financial Accounting.

In this role, you'll contribute to delivering timely and precise books of account for VAA and VAH, ensuring compliance with business requirements and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

Day to day

  • Month-End Support: Assist team members with month-end close activities, including RPA and TBox interfaces into the General Ledger (G/L). Support the team manager in reviewing Virgin Atlantic Airways (VAA) and Virgin Atlantic Holidays (VAH) month-end positions to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Revenue and Cost Reporting: Collaborate with the team to deliver timely, accurate, and complete WD3 airline and holidays revenues and costs in the G/L.
  • Reconciliations: Complete, maintain, and review accounting reconciliations as required, ensuring balance sheet reconciliations are of the highest quality with meaningful analysis of account movements.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance processes and controls, leading initiatives to deliver improvements.
  • Issue Resolution: Investigate time-critical issues, recommend solutions to the manager in line with IFRS and control requirements, and follow up on long-term fixes while implementing temporary solutions to meet month-end deadlines.
  • Loyalty Accounting Liaison: Work with the Loyalty Accounting team to ensure accurate classification of items.
  • Provision Oversight: Challenge excessive provisions as necessary and minimise ad-hoc releases due to errors.
  • Auditing & Compliance: Conduct periodic audits of recommendations, examining formats, documentation, and calculations to ensure standard processes are followed. Highlight issues for discussion and resolution.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate with Revenue Accounts and the VAH business to strengthen reporting processes, resolve issues promptly, and address interface and data information layer concerns efficiently.
  • Balance Sheet & Reporting Improvements: Drive enhancements to eliminate balance sheet reconciliation issues and improve the production of CAA and tax reports.
  • Project Representation: Represent the team on cross-functional projects, identifying and communicating issues, concerns, and requirements while proposing solutions to maintain the integrity of backend processes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage confidently with senior managers and partners, providing solutions and challenging project conclusions where necessary.
  • Knowledge Building: Develop a thorough understanding of accounting processes and systems to assess the impact of project proposals.
  • Team Support & Relationships: Foster positive relationships with team members, addressing concerns with a constructive and supportive approach.
  • System & Procedural Analysis: Highlight system or procedural issues that may lead to recognition, reconciliation, or accounting process problems.
  • Audit Preparation: Assist in the preparation of audit files and coordinate audit activities.
  • Additional Duties: Undertake other tasks assigned by the team manager to support the department's objectives.

Are you a finalist or qualified ACCA or ACA professional? Alongside the above, we're looking for the following:

  • Excellent double entry bookkeeping skills and the ability to understand and discuss practical implementation of IFRS
  • Strong appreciation accounting and financial systems - preferably Oracle financials/TM1/Business Objects.
  • Ability to exercise independent professional judgement and problem-solving skills within an overall business context.
  • Ability to understand, simplify and improve weak processes and controls ensuring efficient implementation.
  • Ability to understand large complex data sets and advise the manager and team on key issues within the data.
  • Proven ability to understand the wider business context and appreciate the importance of understanding end to end process.
  • Proven capability to prioritize work, working under pressure and delivering to tight timelines.
  • Ability to build relationships, allocate work effectively and manage through performance feedback.
  • Positive and pragmatic approach to achieving results.
