Are you an experienced Gardener and ready for your next challenge, then we may have just the role for you. This is a new position at Lyme Park and you'll join us full time permanent contract

If you’re a dedicated and enthusiastic horticulturist, who's keen to make a difference, we offer experience and development within a beautiful garden that is key component of a popular & unique historic site of key significance to our world as we know it, we’d love to here from you.

Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week, mainly Monday to Friday, occasional weekends.

Salary: 26,169pa

Contract: Permanent

What it's like to work here

 

 

 

This Peak District mansion is a popular filming location and was made famous as Pemberley in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. High above Manchester, it is a beautiful and special place and two thirds of our visitors come to enjoy the outdoors here. Lyme boasts 1,400 acres of beautiful parkland and rugged moorland, 2 herds of wild red deer, a very busy programme of events, art and exhibitions. Lyme also has extensive gardens that range from the Italianate Dutch Garden to the Vicary Gibbs tree garden, six catering outlets and two shops. Excellent local transport links means you’re able to travel here by public transport or car.

What you'll be doing

 

 

 

 

You’ll love working outdoors and understand that our gardens and grounds are as significant as our mansion houses, collections and our historical places. Our visitors tell us how much they enjoy the peace and tranquillity of our well-kept outdoor spaces, which makes your role vital in making sure our visitors have an amazing experience.

 

 

We don’t just need you to manage our beautiful gardens, although this is an important part of the role; we’d like you to help manage the team too. As the Senior Gardener in our team, we’d like you to lead by example, with exceptional gardening skills, but you’ll also understand how to manage the workload for this team, and deliver exceptional training to new staff and volunteers.

Who we're looking for

 

 

 

To be successful in this role you should be able to demonstrate the following:

 

 

  • Significant practical experience in horticulture supported by relevant qualifications
  • Have supervisory experience from a similar role
  • Excellent knowledge of plants
  • Competent with the use and maintenance of garden machinery including chainsaws, tractors, hedge trimmers, pedestrian and ride on mowers
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and practice.
