Deputy Sports Centre Manager - Harrow, London

Salary £31,000 - £33,000 pa

Full time • Permanent • 40 hours per week

The role: The Deputy Sports Facilities Manager has a pivotal role, being responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Fitness Club under the direction of the Sports Facilities Manager. You will manage a diverse team, oversee the safety and smooth running of the facilities, and manage two financial budgets to maximise the assets of the business as it serves both the School and its commercial money-generating activities. It’s a busy and influential role, where your daily tasks might switch between discussing business improvements with your manager, overseeing a visiting swimming gala and supporting customers of the Fitness Club.

The skills: It is an ideal position for an ambitious duty manager of a leisure centre with excellent line-management skills who wants to broaden their management experience and commercial awareness to make their mark on the business. It’s also a unique and exciting opportunity to involve yourself in a large project, as the site will move to a state-of-the-art new Fitness Club in around four years’ time. You will have a RLSS NPLQ qualification, experience of swimming pool operation and have demonstrable experience of providing an exemplary customer service to all leisure users.

The environment: Harrow School is situated in Harrow on the Hill in north-west London and is one of the best-known schools in the world. Around 840 boys study at Harrow and live in the School’s 12 boarding houses. The Fitness Centre comprises a 25m swimming pool, fully equipped fitness suite, sports hall and climbing wall, and is programmed to cater for the needs of the School, high-profile events with well-known national sports teams and a thriving health and fitness club that is open to the public, other schools and clubs. For more information about the facilities visit: www.harrowschoolenterprises.com/sports

The benefits include:

  • Free lunch.
  • Free parking.
  • Automatic enrolment in the School’s pension scheme.
  • Use of the School’s sports facilities such as the swimming pool, gym, and running track.
  • Subsidised membership of the tennis, golf, angling and social clubs.

Closing date: Monday 12 June 2023

Applications will be processed as they are received and we may interview suitable candidates before the closing date; therefore early application is advised.

Equality, diversity and inclusion are values that are important to us at Harrow. We believe in diversity of thought and actively welcome everyone regardless of their background to bring their valuable and relevant skills to our community.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All successful applicants must be willing to undergo enhanced child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with any past employer and the Disclosure and Barring Service, and it is an offence to apply for the role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. No member of staff will be able to start until these checks are complete and this process takes, on average, a month. Please plan accordingly.

Harrow School employs around 700 people in a variety of teaching and support roles, many of whom work for us all year round.

Our talented support teams facilitate excellence across all aspects of the School. The Catering team serve up to 3,000 meals each day, while the Estates department look after over 200 properties and 300 acres of land including a farm and a golf course. From accounts and admissions, through to the Sports Centre and Vaughan Library, the support departments at Harrow are specialist, diverse and crucial to the School’s success, making up the bulk of our workforce.

Harrow School is set within 324 acres of beautiful grounds that comprise six conservation areas, a registered park, a nine-hole golf course and even a working farm. Coupled with its buildings of special architectural and historic interest, the School has the quality of a village.

The School operates rather like a small village, with the full array of services being provided by a wide range of staff. The School community prides itself on being supportive, with everyone playing their part and working to ensure that the boys can study and develop in a safe, engaging and nurturing environment. Free access to the Vaughan Library and school events along with a 10% discount in the School's Hill Shop are some of the many benefits we offer.
