As a Relief Head Chef, you will regularly travel across our portfolio of Inns to support our Kitchen teams or cover in the absence of the Head Chef. When not required to travel, you will be based at a property local to you, working alongside and supporting the current kitchen team

Whilst covering a property, as Relief Head Chef you are a vital part of our brigade and you will be responsible for a diverse team, serving the highest standard of food, seven days per week. You will spend your days serving delicious food in well-equipped kitchens and developing your skills.

Your day to day;

  • Assisting the Head Chef with effective kitchen management and leading our teams to achieve targets and deliver results.
  • Developing menu items and specials, reviewing and refreshing dishes in line with business requirements and other external factors
  • Producing a high standard of food from scratch for all our menus
  • Cooking from fresh ingredients
  • Eliminating wasteful or unprofitable practices
  • Ensuring a clean and hygienic kitchen environment is maintained at all times.
  • Ensuring food safety standards are adhered to and keeping the necessary records that meet internal and external standards
  • Controlling the order and storage of food supplies
  • Being aware of and supporting the delivery of financial targets

Who are we looking for?

You should have experience of working with fresh ingredients and cooking from scratch. We have recipes you must follow but a flair for cooking to the highest standards is essential.

You will need to be proactive and a good communicator, ensuring the continued smooth running of our kitchens whilst covering at our properties. You will be comfortable collaborating with other senior Chefs in our group, sharing best practices in recruitment, retention and developing talented individuals. You will also be able to step into and continue to manage an already established team.

You will have an understanding of the principles of supply chain management, waste management, sustainable procurement and working practices in the kitchen. Understanding the principles of profit and loss and recognising how you can support the overall financial performance of the business through an efficient operation.

This is a great opportunity for someone with a natural drive for excellence who is seeking advancement in their career.

As a Relief Head Chef, you must be comfortable with travel and being away from home as you will be roaming between each of our Inns properties on a regular basis. You will have use of a Company car if required.

In return, we are offering a rewarding role with scope for career progression along with;

  • A competitive salary, negotiable dependent on experience
  • Wagestream - the ability to access up to 40% of your wages as you earn them each week
  • 28 days annual leave (rising to 33 days after 5 years)
  • Health cash plan
  • Generous employee discounts on accommodation, food and beverage across all of our beautiful properties
  • Life assurance
  • Bespoke training programmes accessible to all
  • An engaging & supportive work environment
