The Commercial Director is a role model for the commercial community within the hotel whilst being a Key business partner to the Hotel General Manager and owning the commercial strategy for all areas of the hotel. The Commercial Directors role is key to seize new opportunities through strong customer relations and works as an ambassador for the company with our Owners and Key Stakeholders.

The Commercial director will work to maximise all Groups, conference and events (GC&E) key performance indicators (KPI’s) through driving the commercial GC&E strategy of the hotel; working closely with key stakeholders to ensure alignment between on property commercial teams, the owners and the operations team. The Commercial Director will be leading a GC&E Manager, Sales Director and the wider GC&E Team with a focus on driving team performance and supporting team member development and succession planning.

The Commercial director also works closely with the General Manager, Director of Operations, Senior HR Manager and Commercial Finance Manager as part of the Senior Leadership team on property.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly accountable for driving the top line budget and forecast accuracy by implementing a commercial strategy and business plan through to execution using the Hilton Worldwide Commercial Focus process and all available business tools and intelligence available. Deliver as a minimum, the budgeted revenues across all revenue streams. To include but not limited to; All Rooms, GC&E, F&B, Leisure and Spa with a control on cost of sale, route to market, channel shift and marketing / Ecommerce opportunities.

·       Work with the GM, Finance and Operations Director to ensure profits are maximized in line with TGOP and ‘owners return’ targets, aligned with the hotels strategy of “better never stops”

·       Ensure consistent and clear communication of commercial strategy within the hotel, owners and key stakeholders

·       Ensure that sales and pricing strategies are based on sound commercial judgement through effective analysis and reporting

·       Ensure professional and efficient utilization of all systems, in line with company best practices and standard operating procedures

·       Ensure effective information gathering and analysis is conducted in order to identify and maximise on all possible opportunities and minimise any risks

·       Ensure that relevant commercial team members are actively engaged in all GC&E strategic decisions by maintaining regular communication to effectively implement, drive and review optimal GC&E strategies and controls

·       Integrate with other functions to ensure we exceed our stakeholder’s expectations

·       Oversight of all pricing mechanisms ensuring relevant and up-to-date pricing strategy in line with hotel business plan

·       Analysis and Reporting: Prepares reporting and provides critical analysis to support decisions regarding commercial strategies

·       Budgeting & Forecasting: Prepares all weekly and monthly C&E forecasts and supports with yearly budgets as appropriate using standard systems and tools

·       Quote rates independently, only if over threshold that the stakeholder approval is required

·       Providing on the Job Coaching / Training to the GC&E team

·       Coaching GC&E Manager, supporting with the leadership/recruitment of the GC&E team.

·       Ensure that sales activity is aligned to the hotels commercial strategy and that activity meets the needs of the business

·       Key role within the hotel’s leadership and cluster team with responsibilities for coaching, mentoring and development of other team members . Additionally, maintaining additional responsibilities as a  key contributor to the senior leadership team on property.

KEY COMPETENCIES:

·       Practical working experience within GC&E or commercial function

·       Strong Analytical Skills

·       Strong competencies in Leadership, Planning and Organising, Communication and Influencing

·       Commercial attitude and proactive sales approach

·       Ability to analyse data and identify trends

·       Competitive and motivated

·       Strong leadership experience

·       Experience in a revenue generating or commercial services role, preferably within the hospitality industry.

·       Experience presenting sales plans, presentations, etc. to varied stakeholders such as owners, senior level executives and the wider hotel community
