Night Manager - Clifton, York

YHA York are looking to recruit a Night Manager on a 25-42.5 hour contract, with an expectation of the higher end of hours being the norm. 

YHA York is located a 30 minute walk from the city centre on the bank on the River Ouse. We are a dynamic and vibrant hostel, welcoming groups, families and individuals from all walks of life. We are open 24hrs a day, and our Nights Duty Manager will be responsible for our Nights team, ensuring our high standards are maintained and that the site is prepared to welcome our day-time guests. The Nights Manager would be on call to address concerns and emergencies overnight and liaise with the management team to ensure that our Nights staff are up-to-date on hostel developments.

Initial training with our day-time team would be provided to give the successful candidate all of the tools and knowledge needed to effectively perform the role.

What Skills and Experience do you need to be a Night Manager?

Our Night Manager role requires flexibility to cover different tasks & responsibilities. It’s an advantage but not essential to have previously worked in a face-to-face role with customers. Experience in hospitality or customer service is desirable.

Duties vary so good communication skills, excellent timekeeping and basic IT skills are advantages.

Knowledge and understanding of YHA’s core purpose and experience of working in a team would also be beneficial.

What will you be doing as Night Manager?

Our Night Managers are responsible for ensuring the quality of service is maintained throughout the night, delivering excellent service to all of our guests and giving them a great experience with YHA.

Your day-to-day duties may include:

• Directing and supporting team members working on reception
• Resolving difficult situations and emergencies in a professional and efficient manner
• Ensuring the security of the hostel
• Responsible service of alcohol
• Ensuring regular hostel inspections
• Carrying out cleaning duties
• Preparing for breakfast service
• Being on call for after hours support
