If you have any questions about this role please contact: James.Porteus@nationaltrust.org.uk

The deadline for applications is Sunday 2nd April, with interviews scheduled to take place on Tuesday 11th April.

What it's like to work here

The Northumberland Coast portfolio comprises some of the most beautiful coastline in the country. Long sandy beaches, rocky headlands and imposing castles define this corner of the North East. The National Trust cares for approximately 11 miles of coast over a 40 mile stretch, as well as two inland properties at Ros Castle and St Cuthbert's Cave. Our sites comprise a variety of habitats including wildflower rich dunes, lowland meadow, fen, woodland and upland habitats, and are home to some exciting species including red squirrel, adder, avocet and marsh harrier. Every summer thousands of breeding birds return to the Long Nanny shorebird site in Beadnell Bay making for a true wildlife spectacle. The site is home to internationally significant populations of Arctic and Little tern and a regionally significant population of Ringed Plover.

You will join a friendly countryside team and work closely with our colleagues on the wider portfolio, and may on occasion be required to help at Lindisfarne Castle and Garden or on the Farne islands.

You can find out more about the property here: Embleton and Newton Links | Northumberland | National Trust

What you'll be doing

This is an exciting time to join the team as our Land, Outdoors & Nature strategy and Management Plans will help us to protect the very special wildlife here. You will work closely with colleagues and volunteer groups to deliver a conservation work programme across the coast and look for opportunities to involve key stakeholders in our work.

Our winter work program is varied and includes woodland, scrub, grassland and reedbed management as well as to habitat creation for terns. You will help to maintain high standards of presentation across the property and will maintain our fences, walls, paths benches and our bird hide.

In the summer, the focus shifts to the Long Nanny and protecting the thousands of birds which breed there. You will help to support our team of seasonal rangers and will play a key part in predator management and species conservation. Engaging our visitors are key to caring for this site, and this is the time of year when we have the most visitors coming to enjoy our coast.

You will also play you part in monitoring our sites throughout the spring and summer, being involved in nest monitoring at the Long Nanny, botanical monitoring across the portfolio and looking for opportunities to set up new monitoring programmes.
