About the facility:

The Harborne Hospital - part of HCA Healthcare UK is a brand new 100million, purpose built 50 bed, multi-speciality private hospital opening in Birmingham in 2023. Located on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham campus, the hospital will have the deep clinical infrastructure, equipment and facilities and expert, experienced teams to deliver full clinical pathways across a mix of specialties and sub-specialties at all levels of complexity including Cardiology, Cancer and Complex Surgery. The Harborne Hospital is the 4th NHS partnership within this network, partnering with University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust.

Role Overview:

As the specialised Physiologist Lead, you will be required to clinically lead the Cardiology service. The Physiologist Lead will hold skills in a broad range of physiological investigations and perform a clinical work load. They will be required to deliver expert care for patients, train and performance manage staff, and be a point of contact for customer and consultant queries.

They will assist in managing the technical resources efficiently and effectively, and be involved in business development, as required by the department manager.

The Physiologist Lead is accountable both to the Medical Services manager, and accountable for the staff that report in to them.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To provide leadership, support and guidance to staff in the appropriate staffing and allocation of anaesthetic duties.

  • In conjunction with the Surgical Services Manager performs appraisals, facilitates in the development of Professional Development Plans for staff within the department and ensure the cost-effective use of resources with consideration and due regard to budgetary control.

  • Assist the Surgical Services Manager in any grievance, disciplinary, performance or sickness issues as appropriate and in accordance with HCA policies and procedures.

  • Perform a wide range of procedures on adults, as requested by the clinician in one or all of the following Clinical Physiology fields; Respiratory, Sleep and Cardiac diagnostics, sometimes under difficult or stressful conditions eg. In ITU, patient rooms, satellite sites.

  • Hold, or be working towards Intermediate Life Support provide status and respond to emergencies and carry out emergency defibrillation, resuscitation, temporary external and intracardiac pacing.

  • Act autonomously to deliver appropriate and individualised patient care at all times e.g. Anticipating the need for further investigations on the basis of findings from diagnostic tests and provide expert and specialist advice to patients, colleagues and clinicians.

Skills and Experience:

  • Substantial post graduate clinical experience in all aspects of Clinical Cardiology (Invasive and Non-Invasive)

  • Previous leadership / mentoring of clinical and non-clinical staff

  • Working towards / obtained a recognised accreditation (Pacing and/or EP IBHRE/BHRS)

  • Up to date ALS/ILS

  • Confident communicator with high levels of written and spoken English

  • Working knowledge of IT systems / competent using Excel and Microsoft Office

  • Previous experience in Private sector desirable
