Sales Assistant - Stansted, Essex

39 hours - Flexible - Not Including Nights



With customers jetting in and out, the airport rarely stands still so we are looking for driven, dynamic individuals to join our friendly team! 

Contract Type – Permanent

Contracted Hours – 39 hours per week working any 5 out of 7 days including weekends

Sales Assistant usual working hours:

  • 4.00am until 1.00pm (unsocial premium)
  • 5.00am until 2.00pm (unsocial premium)
  • 6.00am until 3.00pm
  • 1.00pm until 10.00pm
  • 3.00pm until 12.00am(unsocial premium)
  • 4.00pm until 1.00am (unsocial premium)


  • 16-18 years old           £6.50
  • 18 - 20                         £7.29
  • 21 - 22                         £9.66
  • 23+                              £10.00
  • Plus £1.50 unsocial premium for hours worked between 12:00am and 5.00am
  • 5.6 weeks annual leave

Airport Requirements:

  • 5 years continuous references (professional/educational/personal gap reference) to gain an Airside Airport Security Pass
  • Criminal Records Bureau Check – to be completed by WHSmith if your application is successful
  • Photographic ID I.E passport or UK Driving Licence

Sales Assistant introduction:
To provide exceptional customer service, proactively dealing with all customers, making the most of every sales opportunity and acting as an ambassador delivering the WHSmith brand to all our customers.

Role of a Sales Assistant:

  • Deliver a friendly service, smiling, greeting and making eye contact with every customer you come into contact with
  • Working on tills accurately and efficiently to provide a positive customer experience.
  • Carry out stock replenishment, ensuring all areas of the store remain tidy
  • Working as an active member of the team, supporting colleagues in all tasks
  • Meeting high standards of display and visual merchandising to ensure the store is well presented. Accurately following planograms
