Deputy Head of Wigs, Hair & Makeup - Central London

Sonia Friedman Productions is seeking applications for a full-time, experienced Deputy Head of Wigs, Hair and Make-up on the London production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. 

Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, this new play by Jack Thorne received its world premiere in London’s West End at the Palace Theatre in summer 2016. The critically acclaimed production is the most awarded West End play in the history of the Olivier Awards, winning a record-breaking nine awards including Best New Play and Best Director in 2017.

Candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to support and deputise for the Head of WHAM. Candidates should be able to work calmly and efficiently under pressure as well as having strong organisational and time management qualities to ensure that the production runs efficiently and smoothly.

Technical skills required include excellent: wig dressing, makeup application and knowledge of makeup. Candidates should be trained in styling Afro-textured hair and have good knowledge and understanding of protective hairstyles. Desirable candidates will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of prosthetic application and products as well as barbering skills.

Experience working on several large-scale productions is essential.

Please Note: All applicants must be able to commit to the full contract. 

Job Location: West End London 

Contract Type: A year contract in the first instance, then the contract will be rolling.  

Salary: Weekly rate as per SOLT/BECTU agreement.

Weekly Hours: 6 day working weeks (Tuesday to Sunday); 8 shows per week plus maintenance and understudy calls.
