Seasonal Activity Instructor (Grade 4) - Caernarfon, Gwynedd

Location: The National Outdoor Centre - Plas Menai, Caernarfon

Hours: 37 hours per week (8 month fixed term contract 1st March 2023 - 31st October 2023)

Plas Menai is the National Outdoor Centre for Wales and is situated on the banks of the Menai Straits, a stone’s throw from Snowdonia National Park and the stunning coastline of Anglesey and the Lleyn Peninsula.

In 2023 the Centre will have been delivering a range of Instructor, Technical Courses as well as a wide range adventurous activities for 40 years.

HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE

We are looking for three individuals to join the centre’s instructional team for the 2023 season.

  • As part of this role, you will be responsible for running water and land-based courses both on and offsite in accordance with the Safety & Operational Handbook and act as Course Director for our activity groups.
  • You will be required to design and deliver your own course materials including lesson plans and audio-visual aids to enable students to engage with activities comfortably at their own level, providing a student-centred experience.

WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

You will work alongside a team of highly qualified and motivated instructors to deliver high quality adventurous activities for individuals, groups, schools and our Corporate Partners.

Reporting into the Chief Instructor, you will support the team by mentoring junior colleagues, including individuals on the centre’s Instructional Development Programme.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

We are looking for candidates with experience of running a broad range of adventurous activity sessions and National Governing Body programmes. You must possess a minimum of three National Governing Body coaching/instructional qualifications in Outdoor Adventurous Sports and have a minimum of two seasons working at a busy outdoor centre.

Suitable candidates will have the ability to communicate with a broad range of audiences clearly and effectively, possessing an engaging teaching style. You will also be committed to continuously improving the service’s offering, being solutions focused and able to work under pressure.
