Become a Swim Teacher

As a company we realise the importance of gaining skills and experience before entering the workplace. We have 3 key entry level roles in which we hope to help support, mentor and support new prospective teachers coming into the industry. 

To become a fully qualified swimming teacher with the relevant lifesaving qualifications included can cost upwards of £700…. 

The Stepping Stones payback programme is targeted specifically at young people and those looking for a change of career. Though our voluntary payback programme you can gain valuable hands-on experience and advice from our fantastic teaching team, at the same time you are building volunteer credit to redeem against nationally recognised qualifications. 

Build your volunteer hours to reduce the cost of your qualification, it is a win, win, gain valuable exposure to the teaching environment and build your knowledge prior to completing any formal qualification, you will also have a guaranteed job when you do become a qualified instructor. 

Stepping Stones will fund 100% of your qualification once you have successfully completed the allocated volunteer hours requirements or if you would like to start earning sooner there are part funded options available allowing you to become qualified sooner.

Take a look below at some of the volunteer roles that we have to offer: 

Poolside Helper (15yrs minimum) – Voluntary role, however hours will be credited back through free qualifications e.g., Lifeguard qualification, Swimming teacher qualification, Child protection and Disclosure payments.

The role would include:

  • Looking after toilet breaks walking swimmers over and back from the toilet.
  • Finding late parents
  • Class changeovers waiting with swimmers at the showering area on lesson change over
  • Speaking with parents and feeding back to either the lesson coordinator or the Stepping Stones office
  • Options to shadow teachers delivering lessons

Poolside Coordinator (16yrs minimum) 

The role would include:

  • Looking after toilet breaks walking swimmers over and back from the toilet.
  • Would have to hold at least an NRASTC (Lifesaving qualification) 
  • Dealing with poolside issues, speaking with parents and teachers. 
  • Taking the class registers 
  • Ensuring that venue runs without issue e.g. direct parents around venue & enforce poolside rules
  • Feedback to Stepping Stones office

Assistant teacher (16yrs minimum) 

The role would include:

  • Gaining SSTQ certificate (Scottish Swimming Teacher Qualification) 
  • Shadow qualified teachers to gain teaching experience for 6 months
  • Stepping Stones training provided 
  • Progress into full teacher role within 6 months starting on £15ph
