Christmas Customer Experience Team Member - York, North Yorkshire

Here at the Grand Opera House we are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic and confident new members of the Customer Experience team to join us over the Christmas period and welcome audiences back to the theatre. This role is a temporary, fixed-term role to support our teams over our busy Christmas period and we present shows on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year's Eve. We are looking for new members to join our team from mid-November 2022 to mid-January 2023.

This is a fun and varied role; you'll assist in welcoming and serving customers in all public facing areas of the building, from serving drinks at our theatre bars and making sales at our kiosks to monitoring the safety and wellbeing of our audience. The main goal of this role is to create the ultimate welcoming experience for everyone visiting us, taking pride in the theatre and helping us to deliver an amazing show, every time.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide outstanding customer service to all patrons, be this on the bars, kiosks or around the auditorium
  • Work effectively and efficiently as part of a team
  • Confidently engage in up-selling, tag-selling and work to exceed our sales targets
  • Ensure the health and safety of all patrons in the building
  • Process sales/financial transactions carefully, accurately and honestly
  • Embody the Company’s core values of being Collaborative, Ambitious, Passionate and Smart in all that you do

To be successful in this role you'll bring a great attitude to customer service, communication skills and confidence in working with a wide range of people. Previous experience in bars or hospitality is desirable but not essential.

We are open at various times but our busiest times are evenings and weekends, particularly Saturday nights; we're looking for candidates available to work an average of two Saturdays per month. Flexibility with your availability is a definite advantage, as shifts could include mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays including Christmas shifts, for which we pay double our normal hourly rate.  Please note that as the role includes the sale and service of alcohol you must be aged 18 or over.

The Grand Opera House is a 1000 seat theatre in the heart of York, presenting high-profile comedy, music, theatre and dance from our beautiful venue near the river and many of York's tourist destinations.

We are a Disability Confident Committed Employer, which means that we are taking action to ensure that people with disabilities and long-term health conditions feel supported, engaged and able to fulfil their potential in the workplace. We will offer an interview or recruitment event to disabled candidates who tell us they wish to participate in the scheme and who demonstrate in their application that they best meet the essential criteria for the role. Where we receive more applications than we are reasonably able to interview for any given role, we will retain applications for the next available interview opportunity wherever possible.

If you’d like to discuss accessibility prior to applying, please review our job description where you can find our contact details to request a confidential discussion.

We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and strive to provide a stage for everyone. Onstage and off, we hold ourselves accountable for nurturing an inclusive culture.
