Rate of Pay: £53,500 -£57,500 National Office / Hybrid Working (Happy to discuss) Hours – 37.5
YHA are recruiting for a Head of Finance (Financial Controller) whose core purpose will be to ensure that management and statutory information and analysis is provided within an industry leading financial reporting framework, that robust financial controls are in place enabling the achievement of strategic and operational goals and ensure YHA continues to meet external and internal audit requirements.
As Head of Finance you’ll lead on changes to YHA’s financial systems, driving efficiencies through the identification of improved processes, monitoring and maintaining internal controls, while overseeing related compliance requirements You’ll work as part of the Senior Leadership Team, providing an ethos of high performance and continuous improvement, driving a step change in the performance, and helping us deliver our transformational goals.
Head of Finance?skills and experience:
Fully qualified accountant with experience of working at a senior level within a similar sized organisation to the YHA.
An up-to-date knowledge of relevant financial legislation, accounting conventions and best practice, including knowledge of charity accounting (desirable)
In depth knowledge and experience of financial systems with experience of introducing new systems and processes.
Ability to provide vision and strategic direction to others.
Leads by example, with experience of leading and inspiring effective teams and a commitment to upholding professional standards.
Ability to establish and maintain senior level relationships and to influence at all levels.
Confident and effective communicator and facilitator, with the ability to engage different audiences and build collaborative relationships with others.
Results focused with a tenacious approach to delivery and quality of output whilst displaying integrity in own behaviour and dealings with others.
Proven experience of budget preparation, management and statutory financial accounts production and treasury management processes.
Good analytical and IT skills, with the ability to interpret and evaluate performance and trends.
Ability to work flexibly, including regional travel with occasional evening and overnight stays to meet the needs of the business.
Head of Finance Role responsibilities:
You’ll provide inspirational leadership by supporting the Finance Director in the development and delivery of the annual directorate plan, enabling resources to be deployed efficiently and effectively. This will involve leading the finance team, leading, and managing YHA’s statutory and management compliance and financial services, ensuring stretching KPI’s are in place which are tracked and delivered. And you will also build collaborative networks across YHA to deliver improvements in systems and processes.
You’ll manage a high quality and effective finance function, working closely with the Finance Director to deliver the plan to help YHA return to financial stability, including involvement in any loan re-financing exercises and delivery of the capital strategy producing appropriate financial analyses as required. Leading on and managing our statutory compliance and financial services including the production of management and statutory accounts, budgets, forecasts, VAT/taxation/Gift Aid, cash management processes, financial modelling, investment post implementation reviews, KPI development, and cost analysis and reporting processes. You’ll also ensure that appropriate contracts are in place for our professional advisors, including insurance brokers, external auditors and investment managers.
You’ll manage risk by ensuring YHA’s financial systems are robust, compliant and support current activities and future growth, identifying and implementing new processes where appropriate. You will manage the development of the directorate risk register and ensure financial policies and procedures ensure legal and regulatory requirements and that good practice is observed. You’ll be responsible for YHA’s cash management policies, practices, and forecasting, managing the day-to-day operations associated with the HSBC loan facility (including loan utilisation requests and quarterly loan covenant compliance reporting).
