Energy and Sustainability Manager - Droitwich/West Midlands 

Location: Flexible

Parkwood Leisure are looking for a passionate Energy and Sustainability to help lead our decarbonisation strategy ensuring continual reduction of energy use, carbon footprint and achieve our zero net goals.

Reporting to the Commercial and Finance Director, the Energy and Sustainability Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the Company has a full understanding of current energy performance and sustainability of its portfolio, whilst developing an effective strategic and operational approach to energy efficiency improvements.

You will gather, analyse and advise on utilities, waste and other sustainability aspects that will drive operational and environmental performance.

The role

As our Energy and Sustainability Manager, you will have the opportunity to work on energy efficiency projects and deliver change across the Parkwood Leisure portfolio.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing energy cost saving strategies and the investment programme.
  • Maintaining a thorough understanding of the energy requirements (legal, financial, statutory and technical issues) which are applicable to our business.
  • Targeting sustainability audits and surveys to ensure compliance and identify improvements.
  • Providing support, and opportunities to the operational teams to implement to reduce on-site energy usage and expenditure.
  • Utilising data, reporting and auditing are key areas of the role to identify areas of waste and reduce energy consumption across the estate.
  • Identify / specify new equipment and major capital replacement, maintaining asset registers to identify replacement requirements.
  • Identify, analyse, prioritise and specify energy investment projects, prepare business cases and ensure project delivery.
  • Ensure optimum performance of all existing assets, including CHPs and on site generation, to reduce reliance upon the grid and deliver maximum carbon savings.
  • Monitoring the installation and performance of equipment and report on the same to verify predicted savings are and continue to be made.
  • Developing the use of data analytics for consumption benchmarking, trend analysis, cost forecasting and financial reporting for the existing and onboarding portfolio.
  • Producing regular reports to analyse performance against the Utility Budget across the Leisure Centres
  • Ensure supply contract coverage for all metering points across the estate.
  • Manage the energy accrual process, change of tenancies, as well as management of bill validation, invoicing disputes, metering disputes, and CHPQA CCL exemptions.
  • Team engagement is key! Train teams from all of our sites in energy cost saving and sharing best practice.
  • Manage and engage internal and external teams to enable delivery of personal and business objectives, ensuring all 3rd party contractors and internal team members are fully committed to achievement of energy goals.
  • Change attitudes and behaviours by informing more sustainable and efficient business decisions.
  • Keep abreast of technological developments, ensuring that you bring a solution-based approach to what you do.
  • Ensure compliance with ESOS, SECR, PSDS and CHPQA mandatory requirements.
  • Ensure energy contracts are robustly negotiated with suppliers and contractors, and manage contractual KPI compliance.

The Person

  • Prior knowledge of the energy sector and energy saving technologies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work autonomously with initiative, critical and creative thinking
  • Passionate about sustainability and providing solutions for businesses.
  • Is able to analyse large data sets, take initiative, identify priorities, and make recommendations.
  • Knowledge of energy markets’ economic and political drivers is desirable, but not essential.
  • Membership to a professional industry body is desirable, but not essential.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Qualified in an environmental, economics or energy engineering related discipline.
  • You’ll understand legislation and compliance requirements for corporate energy management
  • You will be proficient in using Google Documents and Microsoft packages including Excel.
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK.
  • Full UK Driver’s Licence as the role will require travel throughout the UK
  • Project management experience is desirable, but not essential.
