Monday to Friday with occasional Saturdays / Evenings

About LCBT LCBT is a Specialist Vocational College, established in 1995 for Beauty, Retail, Holistic and related sectors and remains the largest Beauty Therapy College nationally, widely renowned within the Beauty Industry. LCBT has now expanded to offer a wide range of employability training, apprenticeships and a range of Health & Fitness courses.

LCBT has been directly funded since 2004 and currently has about 2,000 students passing through it each year. It holds contracts with the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) for the delivery of both classroom and workplace based learning.

LCBT is open all year and operates without term breaks. Courses start throughout the year and learners can enrol and start their course during any month of the year.

About the Education and Training Department The Education and Training department is friendly, fast paced and an enjoyable department. This department is responsible for providing a high standard of teaching and development to all learners, through an array of different courses and strategies.

In order to achieve these high standards all members of the Education and Training Department are required and encouraged to develop and maintain up – to – date industry knowledge through further training and self- development.

The Education and Training department provides high levels of customer service to both internal and external clients. In order to achieve this it is important for all communication to be dealt with effectively, efficiently and in a friendly yet professional manner at all times.

Purpose and Objectives To support the attendance, retention and achievement of learners at LCBT by ensuring learners receive appropriate personal support through a combination of 1 to1, group work, themed events, tutorials and referral to facilitate their learning.

Key responsibilities

  • Help identify and organise extra study and/or personal support for learners who need to overcome barriers focusing on a person centred approach.
  • Develop one-to-one mentoring relationships with learners needing particular support to achieve their goals, helping them draw up action plans where appropriate, and support their attendance.
  • Liaise with tutors and other support services to identify and follow-up issues relating barriers to learning
  • Work closely with the ALS co-ordinator to implement resources aimed to support those with barriers to learning and increase awareness
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings and specific ALS, Personal Education Plan meetings
  • Support the delivery of staff training regarding additional learning support
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of learners being supported and keep a log of all activity and outcomes, producing termly and annual reports.
  • Support the delivery of tutorial support sessions as and when required
  • Sharing responsibility with other staff to encourage the maintenance of positive behaviour in public areas of the college and in classrooms
  • Work with the other members of Education and Training, Admissions Teams and other Managers to ensure the learning support programme supports learners effectively
  • Maintain quality systems within the Learning Support department
  • Work flexibly across the team, assisting in the provision of other services provided by the team during holiday periods and peak times.
  • Liaising with external bodies as necessary to support the  programme and maintain a  thorough knowledge of new developments in this area

General:

  • Ensure the safety of your area by complying with all Health & Safety policies and procedures and reporting any issues to the Health & Safety Manager without delay.
  • Work effectively, efficiently and flexibly as an effective and committed member of the overall college team and within the department team.
  • Manage work efficiently and effectively to ensure achievement of individual and team targets.
  • Adhere to all established systems within the department and implement any changes only as requested/authorised by management.
  • Provide clear feedback to management on either potential area for training not included within the curriculum or student issues.
  • Ensure accurate record and data entry onto all systems as required by the department and management to enable accurate and full reporting.
  • Attend meetings as required to maintain knowledge and contribute to the improvement of services.
  • Attend any training identified by your line manager or management as required to meet business needs or professional development. Keep up to date in subject area and actively participate in staff development.
  • Ensure all administration duties are carried out as outlined above during admin day.
  • Assume other duties in keeping with the role that may be required from time to time to cover holiday or staff absence and have a flexible approach to workload/duties.

Person Specification

Education, Achievements, Qualifications, and Training

  • Teaching assistant Diploma or equivalent
  • English & Mathematics qualifications A*-C or equivalent
  • Fluent spoken English

Experience

  • Experience of working with young people in both 1:1 and group work settings.
  • Experience of dealing with a variety of issues relating to supporting young people and people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Experience of working in a supportive / coaching role.
  • Experience of working with looked after Children and learners Leaving Care.

Skills and Attributes

  • The ability to establish positive and supportive working relationships with young people.
  • Effective communication skills both written and oral.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and notes.
  • A proven track record of supporting learners to achieve qualification/s and learning aims
