Senior Manager - Strategic Partnerships and Development

As the Senior Manager for Strategic Partnerships and Development, you will drive change through the introduction and growth of strategic partners, and the identification and assessment of potential M&A targets.  You will build a diverse and robust partnerships portfolio to transform the way our customers shop at Asda and engage the brand, both in-store and online.  As a leader on the team, you will oversee partnerships strategy and the end-to-end partnerships process.  You will also be at the centre of strategic decision making as we take the next steps to transform our business.

THIS ROLE CAN BE BASED ANYWHERE IN THE UK - LONDON, AS WELL AS LEEDS, IS AN OPTION. 

The Role

You will lead a key component of our Strategic Partnerships and Development team, working across internal stakeholder teams to drive business development and partnerships opportunities in line with our corporate strategy.  You will lead on the development of robust business cases to create buy-in and engagement with key leadership.  You will oversee a pipeline of partnership opportunities and a portfolio of existing partnerships.  You will build and drive partnerships strategy and assess potential M&A opportunities as they arise, to include evaluation against the corporate strategy, valuations, and strategic implications.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and drive partnership strategy and new concepts in coordination with internal stakeholders;
  • Identify partnership opportunities; lead on negotiations and contracting;
  • Oversee project management of partnership onboarding and launch execution;
  • Monitor financial and operational performance of partners; drive commercial analysis;
  • Coordinate partnership reviews and business case development;
  • Lead on M&A advisory to include assessments of target companies against our strategic priorities.

About You

  • Significant experience (ideally 5-10 years) in:
    • Business Development / Strategic Partnerships;
    • Corporate Strategy / Management Consulting;
    • M&A Advisory.
  • Proven leadership experience:
    • Ability to work in ambiguous environments, set goals, and bring people along the journey;
    • Strategic mindset;
    • Forward thinking and self-confident;
    • Excellent written and oral communicator.
  • Attitude:
    • A tenacious, self-starter;
    • Constant willingness to learn and business curiosity;
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
    • Willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • MBA at a top ranked program
  • Retail experience preferred but not required
