Performance Lead

Manchester Institute of Health and Performance (MIHPS) | Permanent | Full Time | Salary between £30,000 - £35,000 per annum dependent on experience

37.5 Hours per week

The Opportunity

This role will involving leading a team of Performance Lab Technicians for the provision of expert sport science support for elite athletes and recreational exercisers.

As our Performance Lead you will:

  • Devise and implement a comprehensive strategy for the performance department through the enhancement of working processes and service lines.

  • Lead all communications and interactions with the performance team and manage the internal communication plan for all related matters in the department.

  • Keep updated with the latest developments in sport science to ensure that the most contemporary techniques are used within the department.

  • Ensure that the implementation of new services are evidence-informed, validated and reliable.

  • Carry out employee appraisals and ensure learning, development and well-being needs of staff are met.

  • Put in place robust risk controls and update related documentation (i.e., standard operating procedures and risk assessments) in compliance with the company policies.

  • Attend head of department meetings and engage in inter-departmental discussions.

  • Manage all performance departmental issues that may arise and resolve employee problems in a fair, professional and transparent manner or escalate as appropriate.

  • Ensure equipment is kept in good working order and relevant companies are contacted for servicing equipment.

  • Maintain the performance area (e.g., equipment calibration, maintenance and repair, ordering supplies, cleaning protocols etc.).

  • Be responsible for ensuring up-to-date documentation and record keeping relevant to the performance department (i.e., training and competency records, ordering consumables etc.).

  • Be responsible for ensuring that staff are trained for carrying out performance procedures and using equipment relevant to the role.

The Person

To succeed as a Performance Lead, you will need to be/have:

  • Educated to a graduate level with a 2:1 or 1st Class Honours degree in Sport and Exercise Science, Strength and Conditioning, Performance Analysis or a related subject

  • Good knowledge and understanding of sport science principles

  • Recent experience of conducting lab testing related to sport science

  • Working knowledge of computer analysis systems and up to date software packages used to enhance performance feedback

  • An appreciation of the challenges involved with operating in a highly pressured environment to deliver a range of athlete and practitioner expectations

  • Ability to scientifically validate and interpret the methodology of sport science test protocols, data and other relevant scientific data

  • Ability to communicate complex data in terms that are easily understood by a wide range of audiences

  • Draw meaningful actions from data analytics

  • Create visually appealing data visualisations

  • High level of IT skills with knowledge of statistical software and Microsoft platforms.

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to both work independently or as part of a team to strict time schedules

  • Ability to be flexible with work commitments as required involving work outside normal office hours, at evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays
