Summary

Working within a bustling atmosphere as part of a passionate team this role as a Facilities Assistant plays a core part in ensuring the property is looking at its best for our visitors!

Contract: permanent

The Hours: 14 hours split over Monday to Thursday during property opening hours. We will require flexibility to follow our operational peaks. (Can be discussed further at interview)

Shifts: are usually 4.5 - 5 hrs starting at 8am or 8.30am to complete tasks before our visitors arrive.

There may be some weekend or bank holiday work available to cover team absences. 



What it's like to work here

Polesden Lacey welcomes over 300,000 visitors a year, which will keep you on your toes in visitor reception! There are many large events throughout the year such as our Rose Festival and Ignite, but we also welcome many regular visitors who come for coffee and a walk whatever the weather.

The property boasts glorious views of the surrounding Surrey Hills, as well as an impressive art collection, manicured gardens and a large National Trust Shop. Colleagues have a great team spirit with close links to the local community. This picturesque property is just four miles outside of Dorking, however you're likely to need your own transport to get here.

Everything in the garden reflects Mrs. Greville's desire to impress her guests with lavish displays, garden tours are available through the day in summer and weekends in the winter.

What you'll be doing

As the Facilities Assistant, you'll assist with the day to day cleanliness and presentation of the National Trust’s buildings and outdoor spaces. You’ll turn your practical hand to all sorts of cleaning and minor maintenance ensuring all our facilities are kept in good working order. You'll also be asked to help with some manual work such as unloading deliveries.

Duties such as cleaning, sweeping and litter picking will form a core part of the role, both inside and outdoors. You’ll ensure the highest standards of customer service across the area by always implementing a ‘customer comes first attitude. General maintenance work and helping within other teams will also form part of your role.

The role primarily supports our Visitor Welcome and Service team, but you also lend a hand with our Visitor Experience department which creates our events and programming. You'll need to effectively communicate with a variety of people from different departments and their teams of staff and volunteers. You'll also need to be confident working on your own and prioritising your tasks for the day.

Elements of this role:

  • supporting delivery of risk assessments and compliance
  • presentation cleaning checks on our site signage and bins
  • refill and check on our three toilet facilities
  • sweeping two outdoor courtyards for debris
  • supporting our visitor teams in managing the car park during school holidays or on event days
  • assisting Visitor Experience teams in setting up events or trails
