We’re delighted that following a successful internal move for our current Lead Ranger, we have an exciting opportunity for someone to join the Property Leadership team at Quarry Bank and Nether Alderley Mill. You’ll have the chance to make your mark in driving forwards our land and nature ambitions; in particular our property response to climate change and continuously improving the way we look after our land and habitats for nature and people. Quarry Bank is a truly unique property with its fascinating mixture of industrial heritage, social history and beautiful gardens, woodland and countryside, which is why this is such a great opportunity. Quarry Bank’s a great place to work as it’s a lively property open to the public 7 days a week. As a team, we're all really passionate about conservation, access, inclusivity and making sure that everyone who comes into contact with us has a great welcome and fantastic experience.We’re a dynamic and friendly group of 115 full and part time staff and nearly 500 volunteers working together to share the unique and varied stories of our special place. As Lead Ranger, in addition to being a key member of the Property Leadership team, you’ll also be working as part of your own team to cover a 7 day rota. You can expect to work approximately 1 weekend in 4, including taking your turn as the Duty Ranger on site. You’ll be leading our Area Ranger, Rangers and a committed team of volunteers onsite and working alongside a team of expert consultants in the region and nationally. It’s hard work, but a rewarding role and a lot of fun too!

What you'll be doing

You’ll be responsible for getting the best out of the team to ensure the delivery our Estate management plan. It’s a busy and varied role which requires you to prioritise your time between office based work and practical tasks. You’ll be expected to be organised in staying on top of the compliance requirements for the role whilst looking for opportunities to develop and enhance the conservation status of the property and engage visitors with our important work. It’s a big task, but at a site brimming with potential, you’ll really have a chance to make a difference and create a lasting legacy.  

Who we're looking for

We’re looking for someone with real enthusiasm and demonstrable passion for the outdoors, but with a thorough understanding of the need to see the bigger picture and work well as part of a team at this complex and fascinating property. The successful candidate should have significant practical experience in land, conservation and access management. You’ll also have excellent knowledge of all health and safety requirements relevant to a countryside setting with experience of managing operational risk. You’ll need to demonstrate exceptional people skills with the ability to lead, coach support and manage teams of staff and volunteers as well as building relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Experience of drawing up grant scheme and external funding applications as well as managing budgets would be an advantage.
